Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Adoption Fee: $200
Breed: Frenchy/Bully Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 25-30 lbs

Health Condition:

Sprout is healthy and ready for adoption!

Physical Description:

Sprout is a short yet strong fawn colored young male Pit with suspected French Bulldog pedigree. His ears stick straight up to better hear the crinkle of a treat bag! He has an adorable underbite, which means when the sun's out, tongue's out! He will occasionally have a blep when he sleeps as well. He has soft honeydew green eyes that stare at you with more affection than you'd think a pup his size could physically hold! He's also very soft and squishable.

Current Living Situation:

Sprout is currently fostered in a home with one adult and two cats. Foster mom works from home and is able to spend time with Sprout. He'll need a slow transition into being crated all day if that is necessary in his forever home.

Personality:

This little guy loves to love! He is a big hugger and throws huge smiles all around to anyone who needs a little extra cheer. He learns really quickly and aims to please his humans. He's a big chewer, and will contentedly chew on his Nylabones and occasionally toss around a stuffie. He has a lot of energy and will do well with a yard to himself, frequent outings/walks and a lot of toys to occupy his chewing habit.

Behavior with people:

He loves any and all people! He can get overly-excited, but overall he is outgoing and friendly when meeting new people.

Behavior with children:

Unknown. Sprout has not had much exposure to children while in his foster home. In the limited interactions that he's had in public, he has done well with children.

Behavior with other dogs:

Unknown. Sprout has had limited interactions with other dogs while in his foster home. He will sometimes pay attention to the dogs on the other side of the fence, but mostly he ignores them and does not bark. At this time, we believe that with slow introductions, Sprout could live with a compatible female dog.

Behavior with other animals:

Sprout has been living with two cats in his foster home. He likes to bark and play bow at the cats, but will respect being redirected away. Very slow and monitored introductions would be necessary to cohabitate with cats in his forever home. We can't guarantee his behavior with cats, dogs, or any other animals in the home, but he is currently getting along with the cats in the foster home.

Training:

Sprout is clicker trained and will sit at the door, sit before you put his bowl down, sit for pets from strangers, do "down" on command, "look" to get his attention. He is learning to "give paw", and use bells for outside potty time. He walks well on a leash with the occasional zig zag and will stop frequently. His foster mom calls it, "trick or treating", where he pulls towards every house, or stops and looks back at your car to make sure it's still there, a sad testament to the life of a stray. As a young dog getting acclimated to the good life, he needs extra help knowing what is his to play with and what is his mom's slipper. If you say "give" and take the item away, he releases it and doesn't try to get it back. He keeps his kennel clean, however, he will need his potty routine reinforced early in an unknown home. He uses the doggy door which is a stellar recommendation to add to your home. Sprout is eager to please and very responsive!

Best Attribute:

We have heard from several people that, "He's just a cool dude". He's a social butterfly who is very sweet. He loves to hop up in your car and go with you on any and all adventures!

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
