Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Flyball was loved by the trainers at the city shelter, unfortunately with overcrowding and her shelter stress she was put up for euthanasia. One loving trainer pleaded for her to come to MPR if she fostered her so she could leave shelter stress behind and start learning how to house dog. We of course said yes to this stunning athlete!
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Female
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 55-60 lbs
Health Condition:
Flyball is healthy and ready for adoption.
Physical Description:
Flyball is a sleek and sporty gal. Her coat is mostly jet black across her back with very slight dark brown on her flanks. Flyball has a white diamond on her chest and stripe on her neck with a few black speckles. She is very athletic and is suited for a wide variety of activities!
Current Living Situation:
Flyball is currently fostered in a home with one adult human and a male and female dog which she is kept separate from. She is kenneled both when home alone as well as overnight. She has supervised access to a fenced in yard. Flyball also enjoys daily walks around the neighborhood, and frequent runs on the slat mill!
Personality:
Flyball is a happy, confident, young dog with a high energy level. She's eager to please, smart, and responds very well to positive reinforcement! Flyball is a playful girl who's enthusiastic with toys. She loves to stay active, but also has a cuddly side!
Behavior with people:
Flyball is outgoing and friendly with everyone! While she can sometimes get overly excited when meeting new people, she responds well to redirection.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. Flyball has not encountered children while living in her foster home however, we believe that older teenagers would be better as her high energy could knock over young kiddos.
Behavior with other dogs:
We believe with proper introductions facilitated by breed savvy owners, Flyball could live with a compatible male dog. Flyball is extremely intelligent and would love owners, and potentially the right furry brother, that can help to keep her mind engaged and challenged!
Behavior with other animals:
While we have not observed her behavior around cats or other small animals, she shows signs of a strong prey drive so a home without these small animals is recommended for Flyball.
Training:
Flyball is house and crate trained. She knows “sit” and will hold the command with distance, duration, and distraction (such as at door thresholds, meal times, etc.). Flyball is eager to please but play, activity, and engagement with her person is often times more rewarding to her than are treats. The reward of the activity continuing is more rewarding to her than treats, but she of course take treats and food as rewards! She does really well on the slat mill! Flyball is continuing to receive basic obedience training and her foster mom is working on perfecting her leash skills. Flyball will do very well with continued training in her forever home!
Best Attribute:
Flyball is very intelligent! When all of her needs are met, she is very cuddly and relaxed. Flyball is deeply motivated by games: enrichment puzzles, play with toys, continuing the walk/run session, etc. Her enthusiasm and intelligence make Flyball a very fun dog to train! The possibilities with Flyball are endless, and we know she's going to make her forever home very happy!
