Dandy

an excellent thing of its kind

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Dandy’s journey hasn’t been the easiest, but his heart has stayed just as sweet. He was originally rescued in September 2024 as a stray with Parvo. After receiving lifesaving care, he was quickly adopted as a puppy. Recently, Dandy was returned—not because of anything he did wrong, but simply because his previous home was not the right match for his needs. He’s now back in a loving foster home, doing great, and ready to find a forever family that truly fits.

Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 10+ mths
Weight: 40-50 lbs

Health Condition:

Dandy is a healthy, happy boy!

Physical Description:

Dandy is about 45 pounds of charm and character. His head is a soft, snowy white—accented by one adorable floppy ear covered in inky black freckles, like a dalmatian left kisses behind. The rest of his body is a striking mix of white and black, giving him a unique patchwork look that’s as eye-catching as it is lovable. His gentle eyes are full of emotion, curiosity, and that irresistible “I love you, now where’s my snack?” gaze. He has a lean, small build, perfect for play—and snuggling.

Current Living Situation:

After being adopted as a puppy, Dandy lived in a home with two adults, a toddler, and a senior female pit mix. He had access to a fenced yard, slept on a dog bed in the primary bedroom, and enjoyed lots of affection and companionship. That environment helped shape his sweet, affectionate personality, but it ultimately wasn't the right long-term lifestyle match—through no fault of his own.

Now back in MPR's care, Dandy is thriving in his current foster home with one adult, a child, and other dogs. He has a securely fenced backyard for play and outdoor time. When home alone or overnight, Dandy is kenneled. He’s adjusting well, continuing to build confidence, and learning to feel secure in a stable, supportive environment. His current foster setup has been a great stepping stone toward preparing him for his forever home.

Personality:

Dandy is a loving, medium-energy goofball with a heart of gold and a naturally gentle spirit. While he’s affectionate, playful, and eager to bond, he’s also a sensitive soul. He can be easily startled or scared by new environments, loud noises, or unfamiliar people. He’s making steady progress in building his confidence—but will need a patient, understanding home where that growth can continue. Once he feels secure, Dandy is an incredibly devoted and soulful companion who thrives on closeness and affection.

Behavior with people:

Dandy can be timid or unsure when meeting new adults, and has occasionally shown anxiety with random individuals.  With gentle guidance and time, he warms up and forms deep, trusting bonds.

Behavior with children:

Dandy has been great with children thus far ! He’s outgoing, friendly, and was  very sweet with the toddler in his previous home. He’s calm and well-behaved around kids, making him a wonderful family companion.

Behavior with other dogs:

He has gotten along great with other dogs! Dandy enjoys a good play session, but also knows how to relax and coexist peacefully with canine companions. He previously shared a home with an older female dog and does beautifully.

Behavior with other animals:

Unknown, but Dandy has shown  low prey drive. He shows friendly curiosity and wagging tails around other animals and is generally excitable but gentle.

Training:

Dandy is currently working on obedience training and confidence-building. He seems to be house trained with only rare accidents and is very treat-motivated, which makes him eager to learn. With consistency and positive reinforcement, Dandy is well on his way to becoming a well-mannered, confident companion.

Best Attribute:

Dandy’s most irresistible trait? His big, beautiful heart. He lives for connection—curling up beside you, resting his head on your lap, and following you from room to room like your own little shadow. He’s a calm, soulful boy who’s also down for playtime, fetch, and splashing in a kiddie pool. He rides wonderfully in the car and is a great buddy for adventures—or lazy Sundays on the couch.

If you're looking for a dog who's equal parts gentle, loyal, goofy, and tender-hearted, Dandy might just be your perfect match. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone to trust, to love, and to belong to.

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
