Bombo

Bombo is a spanish drum traditionally made of a hollowed tree trunk. Bombo is also believed to be derived from "Thumbon", the name of a renowned tribesman in Australia.

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Bombo was found as a stray and taken to the local shelter. We have no information regarding his past and upbringing. His loving eyes and affectionate nature won over the staff who contacted MPR pleading for a spot in our program on his behalf.

Adoption Fee: $135
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yo
Weight: 65-75 lbs

Health Condition:

Bombo is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

Bombo is a tall and lanky boy, mostly white with a medium brown patch on the side of his head and left ear. He has a lean & athletic build. Bombo's eyes have a sweet, sullen look to them that can speak volumes as he hold his gaze. While not overly bulky, he is slightly taller than average for a young adult male.

Current Living Situation:

Bombo is a treasured guy at the MPR shelter. Volunteers are enamored with him due to his very affectionate nature and his good behavior at the shelter. Bombo is respectful of his kennel space, well behaved in common areas, nondestructive, and highly astute. He loves playing with toys! Bombo is aspiring to be an accomplished leash walker.

Personality:

While Bombo has a heart of gold and is a seriously charming boy, he can be bashful when meeting someone new or with a new experience. He is learning to trust new people, but may require a small measure of patience to navigate his new surroundings.

Bombo is especially skilled at the art of the SNUGGLE! He loves to be right with you at your desk. Bombo could even be your best bathroom buddy or maybe a laundry helper. He can be pretty clingy in fact so if you like a very affectionate dog who enjoys long cuddling sessions, Bombo is your man.

That said, Bombo loves to play with toys and can occupy himself if you'd rather fold laundry alone. Bombo would also love to get out and go for a nice walk to help keep those leash manners progressing. He is remarkably brilliant. There is no question that he would prosper with brain games and other interactive activities or toys. Backyard zoomies are a must for this active boy!

Behavior with people:

Bombo definitely has a "stranger-danger" perspective when meeting new people, especially men, but warms up to new faces and things with patience (and treats), as long as people act the right way around him. If someone gives him funny vibes, he will remain guarded and might never establish a positive relationship.

Once he's made friends with the right person though, brace yourself for that cuddle sessions mentioned above.  Just keep in mind that he is what we call "a mama's boy" and will strongly attached himself to his loved-ones.

While loyal and loving with his family, having people over might always require to be handled diligently. He might never warm up to people who are uncomfortable with dogs (or him specifically) and may need to be keep in a separate area to assure everyone's safety.  While he's the kind of dog that will give you his whole heart and fill your world with love, he will require responsible ownership and someone willing to work around his discomfort with people he's not familiar with.

Behavior with children:

No kids! And the main reason for this is simply because kids have friends that comes over and don't have enough experience and maturity to proceed with proper introductions and supervision when it comes to shy dogs like Bombo.

Behavior with other dogs:

Bombo was introduced to other dogs before and did well. With proper introductions, it's possible he could live with a compatible female in his forever home but there is no guarantee.

Behavior with other animals:

It is currently unknown how Bombo would do with other animals in the home.

Training:

Bombo has completed an Obedience 1 course, and is quite exceptional with his commands: Sit, Look, Touch, Shake, and Wait. He does not have accidents in his kennel and is very well behaved. Bombo is eager to learn with the correct motivation and is working hard on his leash manners. After all, practice makes perfect!

Best Attribute:

Bombo is the whole package! He is classically handsome, a lover boy, AND he's got the smarts to boot! You will never be lonely with Bombo by your side. He is truly a very loving dog who enjoys nothing more than leaning against you or cuddling on the couch till heart's content.

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
