Background Info:



Tate arrived to the city pound in really bad shape and spent several months in the vet clinic recuperating from an unknown ordeal. He was found as a stray, so we have no idea why or how he ended up homeless. He had a bad skin condition that required a long recovery and is still being addressed. While we don't know what this dog has gone through, we promised him his days will only get better from now on.

Tate has some seasonal allergies here and there. Otherwise, he is completely healthy and ready for adoption!

Physical Description:

BIG and strong guy with eternal puppy eyes. This incredibly charming boy will melt your heart. Tate is so expressive and easy to read.



Current Living Situation:

Tate spent many months at the local pound, so his transition to MPR shelter was a breeze. He is now fostered in a one-bedroom apartment where he gets 2-3 short walks per day on top of potty breaks. Foster mom reports that he is housebroken. Tate is crate-trained and sleeps in it at night and while home alone.



Personality:

We have all fallen under Tate's Casanova charm. How could you resist a face like that, with eyes that just know how to melt your heart? As if this was not enough, Tate's easy-going personality is just as endearing as his looks. He's a sensitive loverboy who explodes with joy when he's in the presence of his loved-ones.

Tate's energy level is on the mellow side, although he sometimes demonstrates his happiness by jumping up and bouncing around. Rowdiness doesn't last long with this happy-go-lucky boy and you'll soon find him sunbathing on the lounger chair in the yard or ready for a cuddle session on the couch.

Update from Foster Mom: "Tate is still the same Velcro boy he was in the shelter, demanding frequent pets and attention, but he does entertain himself as well."

Behavior with people:

Tate LOVES humans, but it's possible he's met a few heavy-hands before. He really wants to trust, but is perceptive of people's personalities and moods. He's also very sensitive to what's going on around him. Boisterous behaviors worry him. Once he's comfortable though, he puts on this incredibly Don Juan magnetism and has everyone enchanted by his charisma.



Behavior with children:

He's a real sweetheart, but a sensitive one. Tate hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding, but he has the bad habit of jumping up on people to greet them. We prefer a home with gentle, mature, and respectful adults for him.



Behavior with other dogs:

We were told that Tate was a "greeter" dog at the city pound since he was so tolerant of other dogs and friendly with all. Please note that his interaction with other dogs was strictly supervised and managed by experienced and professional trainers, and taking place in a very structured environment. We cannot guarantee that Tate will always get along with every dog he meets, but as of now, we have no reason to believe he could not share a home with a compatible and friendly female.

In fact, there is a one-year-old female Border Collie that comes to visit the foster home frequently. After a proper introduction, foster mom reports that Tate does amazing with her. He's been very tolerant of her. They can run around and wrestle, but he's just as good at sharing space with her and doesn't get annoyed by her barking at him to play more.

Foster Mom says, "I think he would love to have a compatible sister since he does like to run around and play, but he can also mind his business."



Behavior with other animals:

Tate has a high prey drive when it comes to rabbits. He has met a cat outside a few times. Foster mom says the cat is typically scared of dogs and runs away, but Tate didn't chase her or bark - he just looked at her. There wasn't much of a reaction. Foster mom is continuing to test Tate with the cat. We'll update information about this as we learn more.

Tate was taken on an outing by a city shelter volunteer and the following was reported back to us:



- Tate behaved like a gentleman in the car during his visit.

- He was excited by dogs he saw on walks and on the other side of the fence but was easily redirected by the handler.

- Tate loves belly rubs, kisses, and cuddling.

- Tate knows a few commands and loves to please.

- Tate didn't have any accidents in the house during his visit.

Foster Mom says the best thing about Tate is his charm. She said, "I can see how some people who haven’t been around big dogs might be apprehensive when meeting him at first, but once they learn Tate is friendly and they pet him, they’re like, "oh he’s just a big baby," and they fall for his charm."
