Background Info:

A young, starving, and unloved Sugar arrived to MPR last summer - homeless and pregnant. We immediately secured a loving and experienced foster home, and she bravely delivered 9 healthy puppies a few days later. Despite the fact that Sugar was in bad condition at the time, she gave all she had to her puppies. It took her several months to get back on her feet and recover from her ordeal, but she is now doing great and looking forward to a new life.

Adoption Fee: $100
Breed: Pit Bull/Boxer
Sex: Female
Age: 1 to 3 yo
Weight: 45-55 lbs
Sugar was adopted last summer bur returned recently because her family worked long hours and didn't have time for her anymore.

Health Condition/Special Needs:

Sugar is healthy but requires a special urinary tract health diet in order to prevent crystals in her urine. Please note that even though she is housebroken, Sugar's bladder has suffered some damages due to a series of misdiagnosed and untreated UTI's.

She is improving greatly now that we treated her infection and are feeding her the right diet but she's not able to hold her bladder for much longer than 7 to 9 hours at the time. That said, she hasn't had 1 accident inside since being with us because she has enough access to the yard. She doesn't like to potty inside at all. She's just not the type of dog someone can expect to leave in the house for 14 hours without accidents.

Physical Description:

We are unsure of Sugar's breed heritage. She is not tiny, but on the smaller side. She is well defined and muscular. She could be Pit Bull/Boston Terrier mix, or maybe has some Boxer in her.

Current Living Situation:

Sugar has been handling shelter-life like a pro. She is so good and resilient, and hasn't' shown any sign of depression. She actually seems pretty content with her situation and has been great at making the most out of her stay with us.

Sugar is quiet in her kennel, non-reactive and keeps her little area clean and neat. She uses the doggy-door to let herself out in her outside run if she needs to potty. No accident in the playrooms either.

Personality:

Sugar is a fun-loving gal with a positive nature despite a lifetime of misfortunes. She keeps her chin up and tries to see the best in her situation.

Sugar's energy level is well balanced between a lively spirit when the time is right, and a chill personality when everyone is ready to take-it-easy. She does great at adjusting her moods to her loved-ones.

Sugar is responsive, friendly, outgoing and fun-loving. She doesn't seem to have any hang-ups or issues with anything. She's a positive dog with an up-beat, yet controlled energy.

Behavior with people:

Friendly, confident, accepting, and happy to meet new people of all kinds, ages, and shapes. This gal loves to increase her social circle and beams with contentment when in human company. She's a happy dog, outgoing and comfortable with everyone, as well as well-behaved and composed.

Behavior with children:

Sugar hasn't been around kids since being with us but we have noticed a little bit of resource guarding when it comes to her toys. We are working on this behavior but we believe she would do best with kids that are old enough to read a dog well or a home with adults.

Behavior with other dogs:

Sugar lived with a senior Chihuahua for a few months until he passed of old age, and we were told she did great with him.

At MPR shelter, Sugar ignores the ruckus caused by other dogs and doesn't seem inclined to participate in fence or barrier conflicts.

Behavior with other animals:

Unknown

Training:

She knows the basics and is a well-behaved and responsive dog.

Best Attributes:

Sugar is easy to please and eager to be accepted. She is adaptable and has a care-free personality. She takes the little annoyance of life in stride and is a great reminder that there's no need to sweat the small stuff, even when it means being homeless. She's hopeful the right family will come for her soon and wont let shelter-life bring her down until then.
