Background Info:

This striking dog was found as a stray and taken to our local city shelter. Surprisingly, he was never claimed. Hard to believe, considering he is such a hunk. We have no information regarding his upbringing and genetic background. What we do know is that he is drop-dead gorgeous and has a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky type of personality.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Pit Bull/Amstaff
Sex: Male
Age: 2-4 yo
Weight: 65-75 lbs
Health Condition:
Stroganoff recently (mid January) underwent surgery to repair entropion's in his eyes. Surgery was successful. He is still recovering and has a few more stiches left but otherwise, he is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:
The dog is stunning! Everything about him is beautiful; from his great proportion, big-boned and stocky body, to his unique copper color and handsome face. A showstopper! Strog is on the large side, although he is not a giant.

Please note that the hair around his eyes was shaved prior to the entropion surgery. Its already growing back but currently gives him the appearance of wearing a mask. He also has a few stiches around his eyes and scaring that will dissipate in time.

Current Living Situation:
Stroganoff is living-it-up at MPR shelter. We have a feeling his new situation with us is better than what he had before and he seems pretty happy to be in our care. He is still very green and learning how to be an inside companion. He had a few accidents at first, but he is quickly getting the groove of housebreaking and indoor manners. Just learning to get on the couch for cuddles was a new experience.

Stroganoff is still a little insecure when he's indoors but he absolutely loves being welcomed inside. He does very well in his kennel and has already figured out how to use his doggy-door to let himself in his outside run if he needs to do his business. He's also quiet and patient, and non reactive when other dogs walk in front of his run.

Personality:
He's a silly blockhead! Quite innocent and even a little clueless about life, but learning. He looks very intimidating with his big head and cropped ears, but he's just a fun-loving goofball. A little clumsy too and not always perfectly coordinated but he has a big heart of gold. He was probably neglected at a time when dogs need structure and leadership, so he doesn't always know what to do with his big ole self. He'll get there, but he needs a little bit of work right now.

Behavior with people:
Very friendly and happy to be around people. He is a little sensitive at time, especially when he's inside, but nothing that seems worrisome. He's definitely more comfortable on outdoor ground and can be a little pushy with jumping and his need for attention. He would do better with someone experienced with big powerful dogs, and willing to use positive training to teach him good manners and obedience skills.

Behavior with children:
Stroganoff can be a rambunctious and a little unruly, especially when he's outside having fun. A home with kids is not recommended for the moment. That big goof needs training, structure, and leadership.

Behavior with other dogs:
Stroganoff has not been introduced to other dogs since being with us but we were told he did well when meeting other dogs during his very brief stay at the local pound. While he is not reactive in his kennel, he seems to have a somewhat dominant attitude when it comes to other other males. He might be ok with a compatible female, but in a home with someone who understands the breed very well.

Behavior with other animals:
Unknown.

Training:
Little training so far, but very promising. Stroganoff seems to have already figured out that outside is where he should do his business. While he doesn't know how to ask to be let out yet, he definitely prefers to potty outside.

He sits on command but that's about all knows for the moment. MPR volunteers will work on teaching him a few more commands and we will update his bio soon. That said, we think a gorgeous dog like him might not be with us for very long so don't wait before applying, or you might miss your chance. This beautiful dog has a lot to offer!
