Background Info:

This poor girl has been dealt one bad hand after another. She was first abandoned as a puppy and landed at the city pound. She contracted parvo virus and almost lost her life but she luckily pulled through. She was then adopted to a home with other pets. While she got along great with the male dog and a cat, she and the other female in the home eventually developed conflict, resulting in Savanna losing her home once again... She is now safe in our program hoping to find her forever home.

Health Condition:

Healthy and ready for adoption!

Physical Description:

Savanna is tall and lean. mostly white with some brown spots here and there. Since Savanna is likely mostly American Bulldog, she should be approved in municipalities with breed restrictions that do not include Bulldogs.

Living Situation:

Savanna is fostered in a home with a single adult. Savanna's foster mom is currently fostering another male from MPR and she keeps them separate with a slow introduction in mind for the future. There is a large yard with a 6' privacy fence in the home. Savanna is kept in a crate when no one is home, but sleeps lose on a couch at night. Foster mom claims that she is a quirky girl but no trouble at all.

From foster mom: "Savanna is very mellow and calm with a few charming quirks. She is happiest when chewing on nylabones or napping next to her humans, but every now and then, she will throw a plush toy up in the air and entertain herself as she bounces from couch to couch. She is animated enough to show you her inner enthusiasm when her people get home, but quickly reverts back to her super-cool persona and calm temperament. She is kennel-trained and rests in her large crate when I leave. She has started sleeping on the couch at night without issue."

Personality:

Savanna is very relaxed and has seamlessly fit into her new lifestyle. Her personality comes alive when she finds a new toy (or her old toy that she's hidden from herself). Her foster mom is working on her responsiveness - we think that she was in a pretty busy household in her previous home and might not have had lots of one-on-one communication (commands were likely given to the herd rather than each individual dog). She likes cuddles but isn't invasive and she loves treats but isn't gluttonous with her meals.

From foster mom: "Savanna is learning about individual instruction and needs a strong leader who commands responsiveness. I practice 'no free lunch' method with her and she is responding well to treat-based training. Sav has had some diva moments lately but just in the last 24 hours, I've started clicker training with no free lunch and she's catching on immediately."

Behavior with people:

Sav is well-behaved when meeting new people. We haven't seen Savanna in a public outing with crowds, but she has been easy-going and welcoming with visitors at her foster home.

Behavior with children:

Unknown

Behavior with other dogs:

Savanna has seen the other dog through her kennel and through a screen door. She showed mild interest in him, which gives us hope that with the proper crate & rotate steps, they will be compatible once it's time. While we are slow to introduce fosters to resident dogs, we are learning about how Savanna is with other pets. We were told that she was compatible with the male that she previously lived with, so we are hopeful that she will continue that pattern.

Behavior with other animals:

Savanna shows interest in neighbor dogs but seems unphased by squirrels or other outdoor creatures.

Training:

Savanna knows sit, shake, and stay, and we are working on treat-based commands to increase responsiveness. She is very smart and can seem aloof at times - kind of like a student that is bored by the lesson when they already know the material!

Best Attribute:

Savanna's best attribute is her maturity. She is young but has surpassed any undesirable puppy traits - She has the mentality of an older, calmer dog. She makes for a very easy companion that is satisfied with whatever hobby you'd like a buddy for. We think she would thrive in an active home with activities for her to join. Savanna is so quirky and silly! She fools you by making you think she's too cool for your games or treat-giving attempts, but then, out of nowhere, she will hide under the couch cushion or take a nap in the bathtub. The best is when she patiently taps your shoulder when she wants attention. Savanna has the perfect even-keel temperament with occasional goofy moments at the perfect times.
