Sahara

Aquarelle icon.jpg
A name that evokes the magnificence of the wilderness, Sahara is a feminine name derived from the Arabic work sahra, meaning "desert." This beautiful name brings the beauty and tranquility of the Sahara Desert to mind, with its shifting sands creating a landscape full of mystery and splendor.

Background Info:

Sahara was found as a stray by a member of the public and was taken to a local shelter. Nobody claimed this exquisite looking girl. While sad to meet yet another homeless dog in need of help, we were delighted to bring her into our program so we can find her the perfect home where she can be treated like royalty.

Physical Description:

"Stunning" is the best word to describe this gal. Sahara is super muscular and beautifully proportioned. She's a splendid representative of the breed. Her head is like a chiseled statue with strong attentive eyes that gaze at you for love and admiration. Though we have no pedigree in hand, we wouldn't be surprised if she had some "Old Family Red Nose" bloodline in her heritage. She definitely looks like a show dog!

Current Living Situation:

After a few short weeks of adjustment, Sahara has adapted to life at the MPR shelter like a champ. She is a people dog, so living amongst other dogs was a little unsettling for her when she first arrived, but she handled it with grace. She quickly learned the routine and her apprehensions have pretty much vanished.

Sahara seemed a little insecure when she first came to us but has since transformed into an outgoing and confident, happy-go-lucky girl.

Sahara is quiet in her kennel and patiently waits for her turn out. Once out in the playrooms she is all about her humans and butt scratches! After she has greeted everyone appropriately, she loves to do her zoomies!

Potty training took a few weeks but she's made amazing progress. We think Sahara may have only been an outside dog prior to rescue. She had to learn how to use her dog door to go outside and do her business when she first got to the shelter and after a few trials and errors, she finally got the hang of it. She also had accidents in the playroom at first, until she eventually started to understand that potty should be done outside. We are so proud of her amazing breakthrough!

Personality:

Sheโ€™s a funny one! Sahara is a class clown and loves to have all eyes on her. She is gracious enough to entertain herself with a good chew toy when youโ€™re busy, but she likes to check in with you often to make sure your day is still doing well. ๐Ÿ˜Š Sahara has a strong personality and will flourish with positive leadership.

Sahara would love to be adopted by someone who can provide lots of exercise for her athletic energy, as well as stimulate her mind. She is sharp!

โ€‹

Behavior with people:

Sahara may have experienced a heavy hand in her previous life, so quick movements when meeting new people can shy her away. But once she knows youโ€™re cool, it is game-on with wiggles and kisses! Be ready for the strong lean she does against your legs and the body contortions she does to position your hand just right for her booty scratches! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Behavior with children:

We believe a home without young kids is best for Sahara simply due to the fact that she does better in a calm and controlled environment. Chaos, loud noises, furniture moving, etc., worry her and we wish to see her relax and enjoy life without fear.

โ€‹

Behavior with other dogs:

Sahara will be more successful as an only pet. She prefers to be the only queen in her castle and we oblige ๐Ÿ‘‘

Behavior with other animals:

A home without cats is recommended.

โ€‹

Training:

Sahara LOVES to learn and is very eager to please! She can be a bit mouthy when she plays, testing if she can guide you to do what she'd like, but she is responsive to corrections of this habit. We bet she will master commands in no time.

โ€‹

Best Attribute:

In addition to her remarkable beauty, Sahara has an amazing lust for life! Even though she may have had a rough past, she doesnโ€™t give up on finding the good in life. And she always makes sure that you are having a fabulous day too. ๐Ÿ’•
