Roadblock

Aquarelle icon.jpg
Roadblock is a fictional character from G.I. Joe. He is a confident and charismatic man, and used to people looking at him (due to his enormous size). He puts people at ease with his charm and comes across as laid back, humble and easy to talk to.

Background Info: Roadblock was picked up by Animal Control for cruelty. He had been tied to a gas meter and had sadly become entangled and was choking himself.
Health Condition:

Roadblock has minor seasonal allergies that are being managed with medication (Apoquel) as needed. Otherwise, he is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

Weighing in at nearly 100 pounds, Roadblock is an absolute hunk. This heavyweight has a beautiful blue brindle coat with a white chest. In addition to his stunning coloring, he has the most expressive face that is sure to bring a smile to your own! He also has the cutest almond-shaped eyes. This Casanova dog knows how to give you the "sad puppy face" when he wants some loving. Swoon!

Living Situation:

Roadblock is a shelter resident at MPR getting lots of loving from volunteers and learning how to live as a beloved inside pet instead of the miserable condition he was found in. He's been so good that we moved him to a room instead of a kennel and he is perfectly well behaved in there.

Personality:

A giant baby! Although he is a big boy, he has a very sweet personality and surprisingly, displays a somewhat submissive side. Roadblock will roll over for belly scratches almost instantaneously when you approach him! He absolutely loves attention from humans and can be a bit of a whiny butt when he’s not getting any. After what he’s been through, we can’t blame him for wanting to spend time with our awesome volunteers who are showing him love and kindness.

RB's energy level is moderate to easy-going. No crazy buttruns, but he's not a lazy snail either. He's overall a pretty chill dog with a couch-potato disposition.

Behavior with people:

A total ham. He wants so badly to be near you and spend some quality time together. While he sometimes cries in his kennel, it’s all fun and games once there is no longer a barrier between him and his humans. Since he is a very beefy boy, a breed-savvy adopter who can handle his size would be his best bet for success.

Roadblock is extremely affectionate and can even be a little pushy about his cuddling sessions. His strength can be a little overwhelming for someone not used to large and powerful dogs. When he decides that he wants on your lap, he gets on your lap...

Behavior with children:

He's BIG and he doesn't know it... He tries to be a lap dog, which might be a little uncomfortable for a small child, to say the least. He can also be jumpy and when 100 Lbs comes at you, you better brace yourself. We are working on teaching him better manners, and he means no malice, but until he learns, he definitly could knock over a toddler. Due to his size and strength, Roadblock is most suited for a home without small children.

In addition, RB has shown some "resource guarding" over his favorite toys. We are addressing this behavior but since children aren't adept at reading dogs, we recommend a home with adults only for this giant goofball.

Behavior with other dogs:

Roadblock has not had any successful pairings with other dogs. He tenses up and appears uncomfortable and dominant. We believe the best situation for him is as an only pet.

Behavior with other animals:

Unknown.

Training:

Roadblock is learning polite behavior and good manners at the shelter, focusing on not jumping (he just loves you so much!) All this big boy wants to do is shower you with sloppy kisses! He loves his toys and we’ve found that an easy game of “find it” helps redirect his attention to the floor.

Please be aware that Roadblock is VERY strong and will pull you to China if you are not prepared for a dog of his size and strength. He can be reactive to other animals when on leash and hard to handle for someone inexperienced with big powerful dogs.

RB is kept in a room with a couch at the shelter instead of a kennel. He keeps his room neat and clean and hasn't been destructive.

Best Attribute:

Roadblock’s size paired with his loving personality make him a bit of a comedian. He is such a happy-go-lucky boy; he can really turn your day around! You’ll usually see this big baby with a giant smile stretched across his face and his large tongue flopping out to one side. He loves his belly scratches and can’t wait to find his forever human(s) to treat him with the love and affection he deserves!
