Rio
Rio is the Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Maltese word for "river". The Carnaval do Rio de Janeiro is a festival held every year before Lent; it is considered the biggest carnival in the world.
Background Info:
Rio was found as a stray and never claimed. Welcoming her in our program was an easy choice as she is an adorable little lady very deserving of a second chance.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Female
Age: 1-3 yo
Weight: 48-58 lbs
Health Condition:
Healthy and ready for adoption 😀
Physical Description:
Rio is medium size but has a petite build. She is athletic and well defined, with a cute head and facial expression. Rio has a nice and healthy blue and white coat.
Current Living Situation:
Rio is living at MPR shelter where she does her best to be a good sport. She was terrified when she first arrived and the dogs were barking next to her but she has since learned to keep her chin up. She is well behaved in her kennel; keeps her area clean and uses her doggy-door to relieve herself if needed.
Personality:
Very sweet and fun-loving, though occasionally a little sensitive. Rio is easy to handle and eager to please. While she is outgoing and friendly, she sometimes has short-lived moments of insecurity, especially when exposed to new situations. For the most part however, she is a sociable and charming little lady, who loves to make new friends.
Rio is smart and responsive. Her level of energy is medium. She is not a spaz but should enjoy long walks and even hiking or other doggy-sports when weather permits.
Behavior with people:
Friendly, loving and amicable. Rio loves people but might require a few minutes to warm up to certain individuals. She very much wants to have friends though, so she gets over her hesitations very fast.
Rio is alert and will let you know if something unusual is around the house, but she should be able to recognize your cues if someone is welcomed in your home or not.
Behavior with children:
Unknown
Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown. While she wasn't introduced to dogs since being with us, we were told she did great while spending time in playgroups at the city pound. She might enjoy a home with a compatible male; young and playful but not overly excitable or aggressive.
Behavior with other animals:
Unknown
Training:
A smart girl who knows basic commands already and is eager to learn more.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
