Reina
Reina is a name of Spanish origin meaning "queen". Amongst other things, the queen symbolizes dignity and motherhood.
Background Info:
Reina was found as a stray in terrible condition - heartbroken and sadly overused as a breeder dog. Her coat was thin and patchy, and she had infections in her feet and her poor cropped ears. She was skinny and desperate. Luckily, she got a spot in our program and a chance for a new start! Reina spent a couple of weeks in veterinary care and she’s now starting to blossom into a real beauty.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pitbull Mix
Sex: Female
Age: 2-4 years old
Weight: 40-50 lbs
Health Condition:
Reina is now healthy and ready to be adopted.
Physical Description:
This gal is beautifully tricolored - blue with white splashes and brindle legs. She’s a stoutly built low rider with a big muscular chest. Reina has a beautiful head with aristocratic expressions that disguise her silly personality. She has an unusually long tail to balance out that big front end.
Current Living Situation:
Reina is fostered in a single-family home with two adults and one large senior male dog that is mixed breed. She gets crated while foster parents are at work. Her crate is next to foster brother, and they are no trouble at all. Reina gets crated at night, but she is loose in the house with the resident dog when someone is home. She is housebroken and goes into the fenced yard to do her business. Foster mom says she is great on walks when the weather is good.
Personality:
Happy girl! Reina has a great temperament. She’s calm and easy going, friendly, and a little submissive with people.
But make no mistake, this girl has a lot to say! She is very talkative and often mutters or grunts to herself. 😂 She is learning about the world, so noises are strange to her, and she mumbles to herself when she hears something. Her muttering sometimes can be mistaken for growling, but this is just her thinking and processing noises. It’s quite endearing.
Behavior with people:
Friendly with everyone and well-behaved when greeting new people. She absolutely loves people and will roll over for belly rubs. Foster mom says that Reina considers herself a lap dog. She gives dainty kisses and is gentle with hand feeding.
Behavior with children:
Although there are no children living with Reina, foster mom reports that she is very well behaved and friendly with the neighborhood kids.
Behavior with other dogs:
Reina gets along great with her foster brother. She ignores other dogs that she meets on walks and she’s non-reactive to the barky female dog next door. With proper introductions, Reina could probably live with a compatible male.
Considering her rough past, Reina would also thrive as the only dog in the home where she could be the princess. She loves getting affection and certainly deserves to be doted on.
Behavior with other animals:
She is non-reactive with squirrels and birds, but it’s unknown how she would behave with smaller indoor critters.
Training:
Reina is very responsive and eager to please. She is learning basic commands and working on recall. Foster mom says that she is housebroken, crate trained, great on a leash, and she travels well.
Best Attribute:
Her sweet personality, great beauty, and easygoing demeanor will win the hearts of everyone. All Reina wants is to be loved and to give love and cuddles.
