Pookie Rabbit
Many adults will remember Pookie, the little white rabbit with wings, from their childhoods. Pookie sets out to find his fortune but has many cold and lonely days ahead of him before he eventually finds the love that he has always been looking for.
Background Info:
We do not have any info regarding Pookie's background. He was brought to our attention by the staff at the city pound because he had been (mistakenly?) labeled a "Pit Bull" by animal control even though we believe he is most likely a mix breed, possibly of Boston Terrier heritage. We decided to give him a chance in our program anyway, since he had fallen under the stigma of a Pit bull breed.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Boston Mix?
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 35-45 lbs
Health Condition:
This little guy is healthy and ready for adoption
Physical Description:
CUTE!!! Like, very cute!! 😍
Smaller than a Pit Bull, Pookie is barely bigger than a Boston Terrier. All white with soft fur (a little thicker than a Pit Bull coat) and THE cutest ears in the world!! His best feature however, is his adorable little face and inviting expressions. He's very hard to resist.
We can only hope that being in a Pit Bull rescue won't cause him problems. We are worried that potential Pit Bull adopters will pass him by because he's not pitty enough but people who want a mix breed will rule him out because he's too pittish looking... Our hope is that someone will see what an awesome little guy he is and wont let a breed label affect their choice.
Current Living Situation:
Pookie is doing his very best to be a good sport at MPR shelter but we think he feels a little out of place. He's definitely overwhelmed by all the barking and ruckus of shelter life, and struggles to accept his fate as a homeless dog.
He does keep his bedding area clean though and uses his doggy door to access his outside kennel if he needs to relieve himself. As of now, he's quiet in his kennel and non-destructive.
This adorable little guy has quickly charmed the volunteers and won a soft spot in or hearts.
Personality:
Pookie is slightly timid under stressful circumstances but immediately warms up when he has some one-on-one time with someone. He's actually very fun-loving, affectionate, silly, happy, and super smart!
While his energy level is medium/high, he's not out-of-control by any means. He loves to run, play, and goof around when he's outside. Inside he is super cuddly, easy-going, and loving.
Special Note:
Pookie is very athletic and can scale a 6 foot fence in a heart beat. Being intact before his rescue certainly didn't help his case and most likely accentuated his desire to explore. He might get better when reproductive hormones dissipate, but unfortunately, he knows how to escape if he wants to.
We think the best situation for him would be a home (house or apartment), with no fenced yard. He would thrive going on walks every day, but can't be left in a fenced yard without complete supervision. We use a cable set-up for him at the shelter to keep him safe while he's in the yard.
Behavior with people:
Very friendly, affectionate, and playful. He loves people of all genders and shapes, and wants to be BFFs with everyone he meets!
Behavior with children:
Unknown. He is so silly, happy, and loving that we think he would do well with just about anyone mature enough to provide structure and leadership. That said, he has one bad habit that we are currently working on curbing. He likes to jump up on people's face for an open-mouth kiss 🤦 And because he is so agile and athletic, he can reach pretty much anyone's' face, no matter how tall or short.
Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown
Behavior with other animals:
Unknown
Training:
He knows basic commands and is very smart. He keeps his kennel clean and seems to have the housebreaking concept down. That said, he came to use loaded with testosterone and was marking upon arrival. We're already seeing a big improvement now that he's been neutered. We think its only a matter of time before he is fully housebroken.
Additional Info:
It is very possible that Pookie could be accepted in a municipality with BSL because he is not really a Pit Pull. Landlords might also be willing to accept him for the same reason. We can work with you on trying to get him approved if needed.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
