We found this adorable guy with the eye-patch at the local pound where he came in as a stray. Nobody ever came to claim him so we gladly welcomed him into our program. We have no information regarding his background and upbringing.

Physical Description:

Patchino is a 65-pound bundle of love! Patchino has a muscular build with goofy, soft ears to contrast. His gorgeous eyes will have you giving him extra treats in no time.



Current Living Situation:

He is currently being fostered in a home with two humans and a 6-year-old female Lab mix. The dogs are currently working on a slow introduction and things are going great.



Patch is mostly crate-trained but likes to sleep on the couch if allowed. When he first arrived in foster care Patchino showed some anxiety in his kennel but is already doing much better now. He's definitely improved and his foster family says they don't hear anything from him when he's in his crate at night. He seems to have less anxiety with each overnight kenneling.

Patchino had two accidents in the house when he first arrived, but has quickly learned the routine.

His foster mom tells us that she takes Patchino out on errands all of the time. He's great in the car, and just wants to stick his snoot out the window so his ears can flap in the wind.



Personality:

Patchino is such a goofball. Give him a toy and he's throwing it up in the air to catch. Give him a tiny chair and he'll try his hardest to sit in it. Patchino doesn't seem to know how big he is. As long as he gets to be with you, he's happy. He's indeed an affectionate dog who loves morning and evening snuggles. He is the best weighted blanket! You can pretty much move him wherever you want and he'll just melt into cuddling position.

Behavior with people:

Friendly and loving with those he trusts but he has a protective side too. Patchino seems to match the energy of the room. He's calm if you are, and excited if you are. If someone comes into the house enthusiastically, he might greet them the same way and jump up to lick their face. But if you are tired and just want to chill, he can be the perfect couch potato too.



Behavior with children:

Unknown. There are no children in Patchino's foster home but he behavers appropriately when he sees kids during his outings.



Behavior with other dogs:

Foster parents both work from home. The dogs are separated during the day with each person working with one of them. However, the dogs have been out together when they are both tired. Patchino's play style is still like a rambunctious puppy who happens to be 65-pounds. He is definitely a silly, happy boy who wants to play with a female who matches his play style.



Behavior with other animals:

Patchino has a high prey drive so foster mom and dad are working on managing distractions while on walks. He seems to do better when the resident female is in the lead so he knows where to follow. A home with a cat is not recommended.

Training:

Patchino is eager to please, so that makes working with him easier. He knows "sit" when it's time to eat or go for a walk, and we are working on "down" and "wait". Since in foster care, Patchino has shown zero signs of resource guarding with food, water, or toys.

Best attribute:

Once Patchino receives attention from someone, he falls in love. He would probably follow someone to the ends of the earth if they gave him some belly rubs. Patchino wins everyone over by being his goofy, sweet, loving self. He's hard not to love when he's already melted in your lap.
