Papaya

Aquarelle icon.jpg
Known as "the fruit of the angels", the papaya is a tropical fruit resembling a melon, with edible and very sweet orange flesh.

Health Condition:

Papaya is heartworm positive and has began treatment. We expect her to be fully recovered by the end of spring.

Papaya can be adopted during her treatment to a local home that has the ability to keep her calm until the end of her convalescence, which is essential to her recovery.

Physical Description:

This pretty girl has a beautiful sandy coat with some black highlights around her face and white chest and feet. Papaya is medium size, maybe a little bit smaller than average, stocky and athletic. And look at those cover-girl's eyes!

Current Living Situation:

Papaya is fostered in a home with 3 adults and an older large male Shepherd dog. There's a medium-size yard in her foster home with a tall privacy fence.

Papaya goes on short walks, as she is currently recovering from heartworm treatment. She is crated when home alone and at night.

Foster mom reports no issue with crate training or housebreaking. We have been told that she is no trouble at all, and a well behaved guest.

Personality:

Wonderful girl with medium energy. She loves to hang out and chill but is up for any adventure!

Papaya loves to play with toys and will fetch and play ball all day with you!

She is happy chewing in her toys and is learning how great it is to snuggle with her foster family.

Papaya is good on the leash and loves to go on walks. She is great in the car and is finally realizing that car rides don’t mean she will be left somewhere strange. She is learning the deliciousness of a puppy ice cream cone!

Behavior with people:

Everyone is a friend. Papaya greets all strangers like she's waited for them all her life, but is not rambunctious. Just thrilled to be with people. She has a great balance between being playful and cuddly.

Behavior with children:

Pappy has not been introduced to children since being in our program but would love to play with the neighborhood kids. She seems to have a personality compatible with family life.

Behavior with other dogs:

She is slowly being introduced to the resident dog and is currently happy to be crated next to him. He is older and somewhat grumpy, so her foster family is proceeding with a very slow introduction.

As of now, we believe Papaya could possibly share a home with a compatible male dog but won't be able to play and get excited until she is done with her HW treatment (so beginning of summer 2021). She would certainly do well as an only pet too.

Behavior with other animals:

Interested in a squirrel dinner. A home with cats is not recommended.

Training:

She hasn't had accidents in her foster home or in her crate. She is crated while her foster family is at work and at night. She is patient and quiet in the crate. Pappy Knows sit and leave it, and is a quick learner.

We picture Papaya would thrive in a home with older kids and a large fenced yard. She could also do well with a single person or couple who likes to go on walks and wants an easy companion. She's a fun-loving girl and hasn't caused any trouble in her foster home.
