Background Info:

Kalika was found as a stray and taken to the local pound. We have no info regarding her background and upbringing. What we do know, is that this dog is way too sweet to be homeless. She's a real little princess.

Adoption Fee: $175
Breed: Pit Bull/Amstaff
Sex: Female
Age: 3-7 yo
Weight: 50-60 lbs
Health Condition:

Kalika had a hard life and it left its mark. She might have been a breeding machine. She came to us very thin, with a dull coat and some intestinal parasites. In addition, she tested positive for heartworm disease. Kalika has since fully recovered and looks 100 times better. She's now healthy and ready for adoption! In fact, if anything, Kalika now needs to lose a little weight 🤦

Physical Description:

Short and stocky little blue beauty with the sweetest eyes in the world. She is squatty, low-set, and chubby!

Current Living Situation:

Kalika spent the duration of her heartworm treatment in temporary foster care. She lived in a home with a single mom and her 8-year-old son during her recovery but is now back at the shelter. There were no other pets in the home. Kali had access to a large yard, secured with a 6 ft privacy fence, and did awesome.

That said, Kalika did not crate well and she suffered from separation anxiety, hence why she had to come back to the shelter. Her foster mom worked long hours and Kalika became extremely anxious when home alone. We believe this sweet girl needs someone who works from home, or is retired, or a stay-at-home parent, etc.

Personality:

While Kalika is quite timid when introduced to new situations and unfamiliar environments, she is a happy, waggly dog once given a chance to decompress and adapt. She has a ton of love to give and grace for the small things in life. She might have never been a cherished companion before, so she is soaking it up now. She is learning about the good life a little more every day and her heart is full of gratitude.

Kalika is a real darling. Docile, calm, and incredibly loving and snuggly. She just wants to be loved and touched. Her energy runs out quickly and she is mostly an easy-going couch potato.

Behavior with people:

Kali loves people. At first meet she will roll on her back for belly rubs and then move on to giving all the hugs and kisses people can take! Beware... she loves ears! This silly girl likes to lick, nibble, and squish her nose into your ear.

Behavior with children:

Kalika loooooves kids! She has been exposed to children aged 6-to-16. She enjoys their company and seeks attention from them. That said, she is a sensitive dog who has experienced a heavy hand before. For her sake, if placed with kids, we want to make sure the little ones are gentle children that know how to treat a dog with care and respect. Kalika would also do well in a home with adults only.

Behavior with other dogs:

Unknown. We suspect that her past experiences with other dogs were not always positive. She has old fainted scars that indicate hostile interactions in the past. While Kalika may not go out of her way to to initiate a conflict, she can be a little reactive on sight and may bark at other dogs. We prefer a home as an only pet for her as we don't think she is very fond of other dogs.

Behavior with other animals:

She doesn’t seem to notice squirrels, but is very interested in the neighbor's cat. She may possibly be able to share a home with a kitty but we believe she would do better as an only pet.

Training:

Foster mom and her little boy are working on basic commands and house training. They tell us that Kalika is very eager to please and doing her best to master her commands. She has had a few accidents in the house while her digestive system was healing from a life of poor care and neglect, but housebreaking is in progress. She might have never been an indoor pet before, but is eager to learn.

Best Attributes:

Kalika is incredibly sweet. She loves her people with all her little heart. Watching her blossom inside and out is truly amazing. She has so much affection to give and her heart is pure as gold.
