Background Info:

A citizen witnessed poor Inigo being attacked by two other dogs at the command of their heartless owner. Inigo was likely a stray who ended up on the wrong porch. The witness immediately called animal control and Inigo was soon rescued and brought to safety at the local shelter. We have no other information regarding his past & upbringing.

Physical Description:
Poor guy was in real bad shape when rescued. Almost emaciated and had several fresh wounds and old scars. As we expected, this sweet hobo is now healthy and hunky. A tall Don Juan with a deep blue and soft fur. There's a pretty large scar on his head that he will probably carry for life, but it doesn't take away his charm. In fact, it might even add to it. After all, the scars are a testimony of the hard life he endured while remaining a sweet and loving dog.

Current Living Situation:
Inigo is living-it-up at MPR shelter and loving every minute of the nice care and comfort he's getting, probably for the first time of his life. While some dogs struggles with shelter life, other immediately recognize that its much better than what they had before and that's the case for Inigo. He does very well in his kennel and is quickly learning indoor manners and good house companion behaviors.

Personality:
AFFECTIONATE! He's actually kind of desperate for love right now and puts his whole heart into getting and giving as much hugs & cuddles as he can. Volunteers have renamed him Inigo MELToya because he will roll off the couch in a melting puddle when he's getting loved on... Then immediately come back up for more... and melt off again 😂 He is such a big lovable goof and comical sweetheart.

Inigo's level of energy is low to medium. He's probably never going to be a spazz but he's becoming more playful as he gains his strength and energy back.

Inigo is well balanced when it comes to his disposition. He is not overly dominant but not shy or meek either. He needs to learn more about companion life but he seems to thrive on positive interactions. This loving boy is full of potential.

Behavior with people:
Very people-friendly. All the volunteers have reported that he's the friendliest guy we have at the shelter right now and most affectionate. In fact, if you are looking for an independent dog, Inigo might not be the right choice for you. If you want an affectionate clinger though, who lives for cuddling sessions and hugs galore, Inigo is definitely your man!

Behavior with children:
While we think he might do well with older, mature and respectful kids, please keep in mind that he has been through a lot in his life, including possible physical abuse at the hand of uncaring individuals. We want to make sure his new family will treat him with kindness and consideration.

Something else to consider is that Inigo might have never been a house companion before and he needs to learn everything at the moment, from proper manners to gentle behaviors. A home with young kids is not advisable for the time being.

Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown. Inigo would certainly do awesome as an only pet but we will not rule out a home with a compatible female, provided his new family has a good understanding of the breed. Proper introductions and thorough supervision a must!

Update: Inigo is reactive when he sees other dogs and appears to have defensive behaviors. A home as an only pet is recommended.

Behavior with other animals:
Inigo went in a trial home with a cat recently and proved that he needs a home with no feline friends.

Training:
Inigo has very little training but seems eager to learn. He is treat motivated and receptive to training. He mastered "sit" very quickly. We are working on housebreaking and he is doing well, though not perfect yet. We see improvements on a daily basis. We don't think he was ever welcomed inside a house before so a learning curve is normal and expected. We will update his bio once we know him a little better.
