Background Info:

Oh no! Hoagie had recently found a loving home with a single woman who wanted a best friend to love and pamper, only to discover that she is badly allergic to dogs. This is devastating news for Hoagie who likely left a very bad life behind before his adoption, and thought he had it made with his new mom. Back to the drawing board we go 😢
Adoption Fee: $ 0.00
Sponsor: Project Happiness LSMO
Breed: Pit Bull/Bulldog
Sex: Male
Age: 2-4 yrs
Weight: 55-65 lbs
Health Condition:
Hoagie obviously had a difficult life before and was in rough shape when he landed at the city pound. He needed a few months to shake off the bad life and regain his handsomeness. Thankfully, its all behind him now. Hoagie is healthy, pretty and ready for adoption :-)

Physical Description:
Very stocky but not very tall. He's beefier and a little longer than a full blooded Pit Bull. We suspect quite a bit of Bulldog ancestry in there. His ears were cropped short, which makes him look a little intimidating, but once you meet him you quickly realize that he's a friendly guy, only looking to expand his social circle.

Current Living Situation:
Hoagie spent a few months with a previous adopter and did very well. He enjoyed attention when his caretaker was home but was no trouble at all by himself when she was at work. He can be crated but didn't need to be.

At the shelter where he currently resides, Hoagie is stoic and resigned. You can tell that he has experienced better times than life in a kennel and he misses it. He's been through worse too so he appreciates his chance with us.

Hoagie does ok in his kennel. He's actually great in most aspects; He keeps it clean and doesn't destroy his bedding. He's just not thrilled to be in an environment where dogs are everywhere around him. Hoagie is a people-dog. So kennel life sucks.

Personality:
A happy-go-lucky goofball with a well balanced disposition. He loves to be by your side and will jump up on you if you let him but listens to you when you say "down". Hoagie is a gentlemen and loves to please. He will wag his butt as fast as possible when he sees you, even after being away for 5 minutes. He's such a lover and definitely has many fans at the shelter.

Hoagie's energy level is medium. Despite his Bulldog's heritage, he has quite a bit of spunk. But overall, he's a chill and very easy-going guy and has been described as a "couch-potato".. He can self entertain too. Give him some sturdy chew toys and bones and he will be your best friend. He is super easy to please.

Behavior with people:
Hoagie is such a cuddle bug and loves to have your attention. He is a shadow and loves to follow his people around. He is curious and interested about anything you are doing. He has never met a human he doesn’t love and immediately demands pets and back scratches.

Hoagie deserves the best home and is eager to learn. He just wants your cuddles and love. He is excited to meet all people and doesn’t bark at them. He greets them with a nice kiss on the hands and likes to jump up and give hugs. He wants all the pets and attention. He pays you back and love and loyalty.

Behavior with children:
Unknown. Hoagie has not been around kids since being in our program. He can be a little mouthy and still learning appropriate pressure on contact. We do not recommend a home with young kids for this happy clown. He is still learning to be a well-behaved companion.

Behavior with other dogs:
Hoagie was briefly introduced to other dogs during his short stay at the city pound and we was described as "uptight" and "selective." He's not really looking to make doggy-friends. He’s curious about other dogs from afar, and likes to bark back at the ones that bark. He mostly ignores quiet dogs, as long as they are not in his face. We believe he needs to be an only pet.

Behavior with other animals:
Unknown.

Training:
Hoagie has learned how to sit, shake, and we are working on stay (he sits so well and patiently when you put his food down until you say he can eat). He is VERY treat-motivated and he does well on a leash if you bring treats along! He does pull, but with treats, he will watch you the whole walk.

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
