Gloria
From the disney movie "Madagascar" Gloria is a popular hippo who enjoys spending time with friends and family. Kind and warm, she is confident in social situations and well liked.
Background Info:
A concerned citizen called the local shelter about an injured dog. Upon arrival, Gloria could not walk at all and had to be rolled to the vet clinic in a cart. After a few weeks in the clinic, she improved immensely and was able to walk again. We don’t have any information about her past other than some physical clues that indicate she was dealt a bad hand in life. Now she has a chance to find a loving home that’s worthy of such a beautiful soul. This one is an angel. A big ole' angel!
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Female
Age: 6-9 yrs
Weight: 100+ lbs
Health Condition:
Gloria came to us in bad shape with a broken foot that was infected, a lacerated tongue, and had a scabby and stressed coat. It was also evident that she had been used as a breeding machine. 😢 Gloria is completing treatment, getting better every day, and we expect a full recovery! Her natural beauty is coming through, so her outside appearance can finally match her beautiful heart.
Physical Description:
She is a ‘glorious’ girl whose beauty is beginning to shine. Her coat is a shiny blue color with some merle spots. She has a few white toes and a pink tummy! She is a BIG girl - over 100 lbs! Gloria has a giant head with huge muscular shoulders and a stout body. Her cropped ears are softened by her thoughtful, kind expressions and that sloppy smile!
Current Living Situation:
This sweetheart is fostered in a home with two adults and a senior male shepherd mix. Gloria is crate trained and no trouble at all. She gets crated next to her foster brother while her family is at work and overnight. She has access to a fenced yard and also goes on walks.
Personality:
Gloria is an easy-going, mellow girl who loves to hang out with people. She likes going on walks and sniffing around the back yard. Once she’s inspected everything she needs to, she’s happy to come inside for a snooze.
She loves toys and will throw her floppy self after a ball and bring it back. She sometimes teases her foster brother to try to get his bed or just because she finds it funny. 🤭 Gloria has a lot of personality. She’s so fun and entertaining! She loves to pose for pictures when she goes to the dog wash or out on a walk.
Behavior with people:
Outgoing and friendly with all people! Gloria is happy to meet new friends and comes right up to you for a cuddle or some rubs on her head. She is very respectful in her greetings and doesn’t jump.
Behavior with children:
This girl loves little ones! There is nothing she likes more than to be surrounded by respectful children who pet her and tell her how pretty she is. Gloria would love a home with older, respectful children.
Behavior with other dogs:
Foster mom reports that Gloria gets along well with her foster brother and some other dogs, but a slow introduction is recommended. Even though she is the slow, quiet type, she’s still a Pitbull! Gloria could live with a compatible male companion, but she also might enjoy being queen of the castle - especially if there are some kiddos around to dote on her 😊
Behavior with other animals:
At the local shelter, the staff observed somewhat of a prey-drive, but Gloria's foster mom says she hasn't seen much of one. Gloria peeks at squirrels, but doesn’t seem too interested in them. Nevertheless, we would not recommend a home with small animals for this big gal!
Training:
Gloria appears to be housebroken and has great crate manners, but she of course prefers to be with another dog or her people. She does well on a leash but certainly has the capacity to be very strong due to her size and muscular physique. Her foster mom reports that she has a gentle mouth for hand feeding. They are working basic commands with her like “sit” and “stay.”
Best Attribute:
This girl had such a hard life before MPR as a breeding machine in bad conditions, but she kept her wonderful loving personality and cheerful outlook on life. Gloria appreciates everything from her soft bed to her daily treats. She loves to celebrate when she gets a treat, dancing around with happiness. Such little things bring her great joy, and we know she will do the same for you! ❤️
