Background Info:

Poor Gentoo seems to have gone through a series of bad luck in his life. He once lived with an homeless man, and eventually sold to someone who kept him chained outside for a few years. He was then dumped at the pound and adopted to a family who kept him a few months. They eventually returned due to their inability to care for a dog at the time. This poor boy longs to unpack his baggage, once and for all.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 2-6 yo
Weight: 65-75 lbs
Health Condition:
Gentoo is heartworm positive and has begun treatment. He should be fully recovered by the end of winter. Gentoo can be adopted by a local family if they have the ability to keep him calm until the end of his treatment (about 3 months). There are no cost to the adopters other than a heartworm test following completion of the treatment.

Physical Description:
Most likely a mix, possibly with Lab, or a herding breed due to his coat that is slightly longer and thicker than a Pit Bull. He's on the large side but not a giant. His expressions are soft, loving and friendly, just like his personality.

Current Living Situation:
Gentoo is currently staying at MPR shelter, being a good boy that all volunteers adore. He's soaking it up too! He's no trouble in his kennel and keeps it clean. He seems very well behaved and eager to please.

Personality:
A sweetheart of a dog with such a loving soul. We've all fallen for him big time and can't believe such a nice dog is homeless. It doesn't make any sense to us. He's so well-behaved, easy, and incredibly charming. Previous owner said that he's the biggest love-bug you'll ever meet.

Gentoo has a well-balanced disposition. A bit more on the low-key side, but not lazy by any means. He's just very easy-going. He seems to have the ability to adjust his energy to his loved-ones and adapt well to all situations.

We were told that Gentoo loved going on errands but may occasionally be car-sick if he looks out of the window.

Gentoo likes going on walks but he loves cuddling on the couch even more.

Behavior with people:
Gentoo is a people-dog and loves human company. He is affectionate, loving and cuddly, but also has a playful side to him. Previous owner said that he would follow his family anywhere in the house and wanted to be as close to his loved-ones as he could.

Behavior with children:
We were told that Gentoo lived with children and did very well with them.

Behavior with other dogs:
Introductions to other dogs were attempted while Gentoo was at the city pound a few month ago and were unsuccessful. He's selective at best and not really interested in making doggy-friends.

Gentoo hasn't been with other dogs since being with us but is not reactive or difficult with the dogs next to him at the shelter. We do believe he would do better as an only pet. He has enough love to give for 100 people anyway.

Behavior with other animals:
Unknown

Training:
We don't know the extent of his training yet but he's had no accidents in his kennel or in the playrooms. He also doesn't seem to be destructive or a shredder. Our volunteers have reported that he walks very well on leash and is easy to handle.

Additional Info:
This dog is a gem, a gentleman, a lover and a sweetheart. Don't let him pass you by.
