Eeyore

Aquarelle icon.jpg
A character in the Winnie-the-Pooh book. Eeyore is generally quite a reliable character; a person you can lean on in times of trouble. He can sometimes be quite insightful.

Background Info:

Eeyore was found as a stray, taken to the public shelter and never claimed. His gentle and docile disposition were an instant hit with the staff. This is a 1-in-a-million kind of dog. We are amazed that no one came for him at the pound, but so glad he found his way into our program.

Health Condition:
Eeyore had to have a minor eye surgery to fix entropions. It is possible he will need a second surgery to correct the issue. He is receiving eye drops and our vet is monitoring his situation.

Eeyore is also heartworm positive and has began treatment. He should be fully recovered by the end of April.

Potential adopters that have the ability to keep a dog calm for the entire duration of the treatment and are able to visit our veterinarian for the injections can adopt heartworm positive dogs if they wish. There is no extra cost to the adopters.

Physical Description:
Eeyore is quite large and may very well be mixed with American Bulldog. His coat is a little thicker than a Pit Bull and very soft. We were not able to capture his gentleness via pictures. You have to meet him in person to realize how incredibly sweet, mellow, and loving he is.

Current Living Situation:
Eeyore is currently kept at the MPR shelter and has quickly become an all-time favorite. Everyone is madly in love with the big mellow guy. He's so good and so easy. Always quiet in his kennel, he just sleeps on the top of his bunk bed most of the time. He keeps his kennel clean, is patient, quiet and non destructive. A total gem!

Personality:
This dog is pretty much perfect He has a heart of gold and is a devoted companion, full of love and affection. He is on the lazy side big-time, although might gain a little more energy once the heartworms are gone. But we still don't expect him to turn into a spaz. We did catch him do a few 'slow-motion" zoomies in the yard, but for the most part he just wants to chill and cuddle. He's a total sweetheart and very docile dog. Super easy to handle.

Behavior with people:
He's as easy-going with people as they come. Gentle, well-behaved and very loving. He seems comfortable with everyone, though a bit on the submissive side. This dog has everything it takes to make a wonderful companion to just about anyone.

Behavior with children:
Unknown but it's hard to believe Eeyore would have any malice. In fact, it's the opposite. His tolerance and self-denial might get him in trouble. For his sake, because he is so gentle and accepting, we prefer a home with adults or older, gentle and very respectful kids.

Behavior with other dogs:
Eeyore has not be in contact with other dogs since being in our program but we were told he did very well when introduced to several dogs at the pound. For the same reasons as above however, we will not place him in a home with a young rambunctious dog as he could get overwhelmed. A compatible and gentle female might be an option for him, or he would thrive as an only pet.

Behavior with other animals:
Unknown

Training:
Eeyore knows some basic commands and is naturally well-behaved. He is very eager to please and easy-to-handle.

This gentleman dog deserves an owner that will never give up on him and will always treat him with care and affection for the rest of his life.
