Background Info:



A member of the public brought Della Duck to the city shelter claiming to have found her roaming by herself in a bad part of town. She was in poor condition - underweight and having obviously weaned a litter of puppies recently (her milk supply was not quite dried up). This is all the info we have regarding her previous life. This sweet girl is now eagerly looking for a new beginning, which we hope will be much better than her past.

Health Condition:

Della had a mass removed from her back that was determined to be a benign hemangioma. She has another small lump on her back that was aspirated and determined to be a cyst. She currently has what is believed to be a mast cell tumor on her front leg. We will have our vet look at it ASAP and determine the best course of action, as well as a long term prognosis.

Della had a hard life as a neglected breeding machine. She is finally given a chance to find a caring family. We can only hope that her health will not discourage a loving owner from giving her a chance. We believe Della has many good years ahead of her and should experience love and good care before the end of her life. She has given so much of herself to litters of puppies after litters of puppies... She now deserves to be pampered.

Physical Description:

She's a beautiful mess. Years of neglect and abusive breeding have left her thin and with extra skin under her belly. She will always look like she had puppies, and what can we say, she did. It's no reason to be overlooked as an adoption candidate. She has a gorgeous soul and you can see the goodness of her heart shine through her eyes.

Della might be part American Bulldog. She is rather large for a female and has an exquisite smooshy face.



Current Living Situation:

Della spent a couple weeks in a temporary foster home before her arrival to MPR. She is now living at our shelter and quickly becoming a volunteer favorite.



Personality:

She is very sweet!! She is still new in our program and we will update her bio once we know her better, but so far we can say that she's easy-going, well-behaved, eager to please, you name it. She's a gem. She was described to us as being very easy to handle, medium/low energy, with a loving and happy-go-lucky personality. We were told she loves going on walks and playing with her loved-ones.

Behavior with people:

We've been told that Della loves all people she meets and this has been the case since being with us. She lovingly greets everyone with good manners and a wiggly body & tail.



Behavior with children:

Della has met a few children during her brief stay in foster care, and was sweet, wiggly, and gentle. She has also been described as tolerant and kindhearted.



Behavior with other dogs:

Della was successfully introduced to other dogs while at the city shelter and recently spent a few weeks in a home with 3 bully type dogs. A home with a compatible male is an option for her, although she could be just as happy as an only pet.



Behavior with other animals:

Unknown. She doesn't seem to have a high prey drive but has not been tested with cats.

Training:

Della is responsive and eager to please. She knows "sit" and takes treats gently. She does not mind the crate and sometimes will go in and lay down when the door is open. Housebreaking is in progress.
