Canella; cinnamon in french. A spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species. Canella represents stability, soothing warmth and is associated with fire and sun.
We found this beauty in pretty bad shape but trying to be a trouper in an overcrowded local pound. Her unique appearance captured our attention but her fun-loving personalty won our heart.
Canella has a sensitive stomach. Her digestive track is easily managed with a little Benefiber supplement sprinkled onto her food. Cheap and easy. Otherwise, she is healthy and ready for adoption.
She's a beauty in person. You have to meet her as she is not very photogenic. She's actually a show stopper! Canella is big boned girl, close to 70 lbs and gaining. Her tri-colored red fawn coat with copper reflections is amazing but hard to capture in pictures. She sure is a head-turner!
Once a shelter veteran, Canella is now living the good life in a foster home with two adults, no children but a 6 yo male Pit Bull. Canella has her very own designated bedroom.
Her foster have a small dog-run for quick potty breaks but other wise take the dogs on walk several times a day for exercise. She does really well on a "Weiss Walkie" and pretty well with a harness. She does like to stop and sniff and inspect her new surroundings. We've noticed she's still unsure about other people, especially when they're on a bike but she is learning about suburban living.
Energetic, driven, and a happy goofy puppy. Canella is always in a good mood and ready for a good time. She loves her toys and has a very juvenile personality. We can't say that she is a typical couch potato but she is not a hyper dog by any means. She always finds ways to amuse herself and make us laugh. A real goober!
As shown on pictures, she is particularly fond of the doggy pool.
Canella thrives when her mind is engaged. While she does well in a crate when home alone, we recommend a large yard with a privacy fence for her as she gets easily stimulated and is very athletic. She could also be placed in a home with people who'd take her on a lot of walks if they have experience with strong and powerful dogs.
Behavior with people:
Friendly with her loved-ones but she has a protective side. She is especially fond of women but warms up to men after a few minutes. She loves leadership and seeks cues from her handler. Canella is an obedience-training star!
Her foster family has seen a new side of Canella in their home, saying she can be very affectionate and cuddly once she has expended her energy. Give her some butt scratchies and she'll transform into a lapdog right before your eyes!
Behavior with children:
Unknown but she's big and energetic with a teenager personality. She has a happy drive and could knock over a toddler without meaning to. As of now, we recommend a home with adults only for this very smart dog.
Behavior with other dogs:
Canella could possibly share a home with a compatible male via slow and proper introductions and with supervision. It would need to be a stoic dog able to keep up with her energy and enthusiasm for roughhousing, Owners would need to be very breed savvy and experienced with large powerful dogs.
We believe Canella would do better as an only pet. However she is being slowly introduced to the male dog in her foster home and so far so good. They did a lot of parallel walks together and are now sharing the same space in the house with no issues. Her foster parents say that Canella is curious, but generally unbothered by him.
Behavior with other animals:
Unknown but probably not the best match for a home with cats.
This girl has found her calling; obedience training! She loves it. Canella She's treat-motivated and very eager to please! Smart, playful, and very driven. She mastered the first part of her training class and had so much fun that we decided to expand her training and enrolled her in more advanced classes.
Canella has the drive, intelligence, and motivation to be a working dog. This is the dog who has the most fun in her at the training school and always impresses the teacher.
