Background Info:



Bugs was brought into the city shelter by animal control. He was found as a stray, injured. We do not have any info on how he became homeless, what caused his injuries, or what his background history is. What we do know is that a brave little guy like him certainly deserves a second chance at love.

Health Condition:

Bugs had a slight limp and a hard bump on the top of his head upon his arrival to the city pound. The clinic took him for X-rays and discovered the bump on his head was caused by a skull fracture. He also had bilateral tibia fractures, and a fractured left cheek bone. A consultation with a board-certified orthopedic surgeon determined that all of his fractures were healed except for his left cheek bone, which was healing nicely. No surgery or treatment would be beneficial for any of his old injuries. Bugs may develop arthritis later in life, that should be manageable with pain meds when needed.

Note that during his convalescence, Bugs was put on a mild sedative in order to help him rest and stay calm. He is now in the process of being tapered off.

Physical Description:

Bugs is not full grown yet but is heading towards being average size for a pity mix. He has the cutest face with funny bunny ears.



Current Living Situation:

Bugs is between foster homes right now. He will be moving into a foster with other dogs, cats, and teenage children in mid-April. We will update his bio as soon as we have more info.



Personality:

Typical teenager puppy; ornery, funny, curious, and full of mischief. Poor Bugs was forced to endure several weeks of cage rest at an age puppies normally run and play all the time. You can only imagine his excitement now that his recovery is over. He does need to learn to be a well-behaved companion and will require a patient home that has time to teach him the ropes.

MPR often receives young dogs between 6 and 18 months and people may not realize that Pit Bulls this age can be a bit of a handful. Terriers are super smart, inquisitive, and spirited. They require patient ownership and disciplined consistency in order to thrive. In Bugs' case, the typical teenager period was exacerbated by his convalescence. As a result of being caged for so long, he's not too fond of being in a crate now. Who would blame him? We have crate suggestions for resourceful little guys like him if needed. In addition, Bugs needs to relearn housebreaking and all-around general house manners.

Yes, he's going to be a bit of a project but his cuteness and fun-loving personality totally make up for it.

Behavior with other dogs:

While at the pound Bugs was introduced to other dogs. We were told he was social in playgroups, though a little timid at first. We will update with additional info after he settles in his foster home and interacts with the other pets.



Behavior with other animals:

Bugs has exhibited prey drive with bunnies, which is expected from a Terrier. We will update his page once we see how he does with the other pets in his new foster home.
