Background Info:



Bentley was adopted from MPR as a puppy in 2015 and grew up in a family with young children. His world came crashing down on him this spring when the owners lost their home and had to move. Circumstances out of their control prevented them to bring Bentley with them. Poor boy is now forced to live at the shelter, anxiously hoping that someone will give him another chance. Sadly, being homeless is not the only hardship Bentley is currently facing...

Health Condition:

Bentley was diagnosed with grade 4 luxated patella's in both knees. The patella's are permanently out of the groove and cannot be manually repositioned. Due to this condition, Bentley most likely developed cruciate tears. Because Bentley's issue wasn't resolved when he was younger, it is sadly too late for surgery now. All we can do for this sweet boy from now on, is pain management.

We realize that adopting a dog diagnosed with such condition might discourage people from applying for this sweet boy. MPR wants to give Bentley the best chance he can get to find the home he deserves so we are committed to covering the cost of laser treatment until February 2023 if an adopter can take him to our vet in Blue Springs.



Please don't let Bentley's knees issue be a deterrent for giving him the home he desperately longs for. This boy hates being homeless and god only knows he could use a loving home.

Physical Description:

Bentley is a tall and lean gentleman with a gorgeous copper/gold coat. Due to his knees condition, his gate is compromised but he can still trot, go on short walks and get on a low bed. His knees are protruding so his back legs look deformed. Other congenital defects also affect his head shape which makes his skull seem sunken in.



So he's not Brad Pitt... But the beauty is in his heart. This dog is gorgeous on the inside ❤️

Current Living Situation:

Bentley had a hard time adapting to shelter life, but he's doing better now. Unlike dogs that come to us after escaping a bad situation, Bentley had lived with a family for as long as he could remember. Losing his loved ones completely devastated him and broke his heart. He's trying hard to move on, but you can tell how much he longs for a family.

Because Bentley struggled so much with kennel life and he is such a good boy we decided to give him his own house. Yes, Bentley lives in a tiny-house that we built on the property, complete with a kitchenet and bathroom. He is so well behaved that the house is in better condition now than it was when a human tenant lived in it! 🤦‍♀️ He loves his little house but he is lonely in there and craves human company. He never complains though and keeps everything neat and tidy. He hasn't had 1 accident in the house and its carpeted.

Personality:

A sweet and friendly boy with a soft personality. He has a playful side too, which is incredibly endearing. His family described him as "happy-go-lucky." Bentley waited for his family to come back for months and then resigned himself to his fate. He's not rather content and loves the volunteers.

Bentley has a moderate energy level that is somewhat limited by his current knee affliction. We think this boy would love to go on more walks, but we are being cautious and restricting exercise for the time being.

Bentley is smart, responsive, and very well behaved.

Behavior with people:

Super friendly! This boy loves people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. He does not discriminate whatsoever. He's a typical Pit Bull in that sense, and undeniably people-friendly. Though very happy to meet everyone, Bentley is well behaved with his greetings and always comfortable and polite when interacting with people.



Behavior with children:

Bentley was raised with children. The kids were 4 and 8 when he moved in with the family as a puppy 7 years ago, and he enjoyed being with little ones from the get go. He's a great family dog and would love a home with kids again.



Behavior with other dogs:

Bentley is a people-dog. He is not fond of other pets and prefers to be the only furry kid in a home. Bentley can be reactive at the sight of other animals and engage in negative interactions with other dogs at the fence if they have an aggressive attitude toward him.



Note that because of his knee problem, Bentley doesn't jump fences or baby gates and has limited mobility with certain movements, making it easy to contain and control him.



Behavior with other animals:

Bentley needs to be an only pet.

Training:

Bentley is well behaved and has great house manners. He used to wait to be invited on the couch before getting up on it, but our volunteers spoil him and let him cuddle with them anytime he wants. He is fully house broken and crate-trained. His previous family didn't have to keep him in a crate when he was home alone, but he'll go in one with no issue if needed.

Best Attributes:

Bentley's genuine willingness to please is his best attribute. This clever boy knows when to be playful and when to be calm. He's happy-go-lucky in the yard but relaxes indoors. If visitors come over, he doesn't jump up but is always happy to meet them. Once he gets to meet everyone, he lays down or goes about his business. Bentley has great house manners, is friendly, and he loves kids. If it weren't for his knee problems, he'd be the perfect dog.



We promised Bentley to find someone who will not be deter by his issues. This dog has a heart of gold and doesn't deserve to be homeless and unloved. He's been with us since spring 2022 and no one has ever applied for him... How could we ever explain this to him...? ☹️☹️
