Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Unknown or info coming soon
Adoption Fee: $300
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 6+ mth
Weight: Growing
Health Condition:
Tux is healthy and ready for adoption!
Physical Description:
Tux is an aptly named pocket-sized terrier mix. He has a shiny black coat, a white chest, and ears that just won't quit. You won't have any problem getting "ears" for pictures because there is no off switch for those perky things. Tux is still young, but he has definitely transitioned from a puppy body to more of a muscular young man. His little booty muscles really pop when he's stretching up to say "Hi!"
Current Living Situation:
Tux lives in a home with a small, fenced back yard. His housemates include his foster mom and a 9 yr old female Belgian Malinois. Tux is crate trained and has not had accidents in his kennel- very impressive for a dog his age and size. He sleeps in his kennel at night and leaves his bedding in perfect condition. He has had minimal accidents in the house as he is perfecting potty training. Tux often spends time in his kennel while his foster mom is working from home, since she can't keep eyes on the young guy all the time. He is confident and inquisitive on neighborhood walks and hardware store visits. He's been to K9 Closet for some treat shopping and met a large breed puppy and the shop cat. He was also very excited to meet another young terrier mix at Sutherlands when we went to see Santa. Tux learned quickly that the car takes him to fun places, and he loads eagerly into the crate in the back of the SUV.
Personality:
Tux is game for anything you throw at him, and he is a FAST learner! He walks through doors confident and eager to see what's next. In the back yard he loves to chase balls and frisbee rollers and zoom with the resident dog. Tux always has approved toys available to satisfy his need to chew while he's hanging out on the couch. He can happily gnaw away on a Benebone for hours. As much as he loves his toys, he immediately gives them up when his foster mom tells him "out." After just two days of being fed on the same mat in the kitchen, Tux started placing himself there and waiting patiently while his bowl is filled across the room. His foster mom has never seen a dog pick up on routines and expectations so quickly.
Behavior with people:
Tux has met several people, both in his foster home and while out and about. He has been friendly and eager to meet everyone. He met Santa and didn’t skip a beat trying to hug and kiss the jolly old elf. He engages equally enthusiastically with everyone.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. Tux has not had exposure to children while in his foster home. Because he has puppy energy and a playful nature, a home with older children would be recommended.
Behavior with other dogs:
Tux has had limited exposure to other dogs, as he's still learning how to contain his excitement when he meets someone new. The resident dog is generally friendly, but takes time to warm up, especially when she thinks a new dog doesn't have the best manners. She and Tux have made it through the get to know you phase and now play quite heartily with each other. Foster mom is working more on manners to give best possible interactions for future dog introductions. With proper introductions, we believe that Tux could live with a compatible female that can understand his puppy ways.
Behavior with other animals:
Tux was introduced to the shop cat at K9 Closet in a very controlled manner. He was excited and curious. This one interaction may not be indicative of future interactions with other cats or small animals.
Training:
Tux is very eager to learn! He is getting a foundation in making eye contact and building a relationship with his foster mom. He's learning quickly that sitting and making eye contact is how to ask for what he wants. Tux is mostly housebroken and always potties first thing when he goes outside. However, because he goes to sit quietly beside the back door when he needs out, sometimes his foster mom misses the cue. Loose leash walking is a work in progress. Tux is soooo excited to be out exploring the world that "with me" can be hard to hear sometimes, even with his perfect ears. Tux is the BEST boy in his crate! He sometimes barks briefly when kenneled, but he settles quickly. He he respectful of his kennel and bedding. Tux would be a great fit for a family that works outside of the home because he won't guilt trip you for leaving the house. He will benefit from continued training in his forever home.
Best Attribute:
If you're looking for all the personality of a large dog, but in a pocket-sized version, Tux is your (little) man! He's a sturdy, physical boy with the determined heart of a terrier. Tux is an "all-in" kind of dog in everything he does and a sweet velcro boy when he's tanked for the day. His foster mom's heart melts when he pushes the blankets away to cuddle up in the crook of her knees to snooze.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
