From the Disney movie "Madagascar". Stefano is a fun-loving Italian sea lion who always looks on the brighter side of things.
We have no info regarding Stefano's background story other than he was picked up by animal control as a stray, emaciated and in very bad shape. He has since blossomed into a gorgeous Don Juan.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Age: 2-5 yrs
Weight: 78 to 88 lbs
Color: Blue fawn
Stefano was severely underweight when found but quickly gained much needed weight. He is neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Cruciate Tear: Stefano had an unfortunate encounter with a "Llama" this summer and suffered a cruciate injury to the leg. We did a successful PROLOTHERAPY and he is now back on his feet!
Please note that Stefano was also diagnosed with mild but progressive hip dysplasia, commonly seen in dogs his size. He needs daily joint supplements and might require pain management later in life.
We are hopeful a family will still offer him a great home, as he is such a fantastic dog. Not only is he drop-dead gorgeous but he also has an excellent temperament that matches his beauty.
The dog is absolutely stunning! He looks like a show dog, though a little larger than average. He might have some Mastiff in him. He turns heads everywhere he goes and melts hearts with his sweet face, loving eyes and impressive stature. Too bad someone chopped off his ears, but you can still see the sweetness in his eyes despite his intimidating appearance.
Stefano currently lives at MPR where he hasn't caused any trouble. He does keep his inside kennel clean and uses the doggy door to let himself out as needed.
Stefano does well in his kennel and while curious of what's going on around him, he doesn't appear overly stimulated or reactive. Just interested and eager to make friends.
Stefano is a big "teddy-bear" type sweetheart. His personality is as remarkable as his striking appearance. He's a big lovable goof, who grunts and snorts and loves to lay his HUGE head on your lap, if not his entire big self! He's a lap dog stuck in a bear costume. Super loving and sweet.
His level of energy is more on the chill side. He's super happy to greet his loved-ones and welcomes new friends with enthusiasm but soon calms down. He's a lounger, not a marathon runner.
Stefano is VERY strong but he is responsive and has a well-balanced personality. He's not giving us any reason to believe he is overly dominant but he's not shy or timid either. He's a big confident boy, who demonstrates a friendly disposition and cordial nature.
Behavior with people:
Stefano loves people and is at ease with everyone he meets. He's a spectacular breed representative in that aspect. He needs a little work with his leash manners in order to become a perfect ambassador but nothing that can't be worked on. He's just very strong and eager to go say hi to everyone.
At the shelter, Stefano is an unselective greeter, meaning that he doesn't seem to know a stranger. Chances are he won't be a great guard dog since he loves people so much, but his appearance alone should deter anyone with bad intentions. We still want to make sure his family understands he is more at risk of being stolen than anything and he's the one who needs guarded.
Behavior with children:
Stefano has briefly met children since being with us and did well. Other than being very large, super strong and a little clumsy, we see no reason to believe he wouldn't be a great companion in a family with children. He is too strong for kids to walk him though and needs strong handling.
Behavior with other dogs:
Stefano was briefly introduced to other dogs while at the city shelter and we were told he did fine with females. At the time however, he had been recently neutered and was more interested in mating than anything else.
Recently he met small sized dogs and did ok with them after a slow introduction period.
Stefano is dominance towards male dogs (and possibly all larger dogs) and won't back down if challenged.
Stefano is primary a people-dog and while he might be able to share a home with a compatible female, under good supervision and trigger-management, we believe he would do awesome as an only pet.
Behavior with other animals:
For obvious reason, Stefano will not be placed in a home with farm animals. He seems challenged by animals larger than him and reactive. He is very strong and difficult to manage under those conditions.
We dont know if he would be ok with smaller animals such as cats.
Stefano knows basic training and is naturally easy and well-behaved, other than pulling on the leash. He is very strong. He will require leash-training.
Beauty, charm and amazing disposition. Stefano is the full package! This is a remarkable dog who's loving nature shines as bright has his good looks.
