Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Smokey Joe was found as a stray with his sister Pumpkin Spice Latte and brought to the city shelter. Their stunning looks and sweet personalities were an immediate "Yes" to come into our program!

Physical Description:
Smokey Joe brings handsome to a new level! His gorgeous big square head and soft endearing eyes just draw you in. Joe has a solid thick structure about him. Beautiful conformation with strong legs and body. His color is almost a liver fawn with amazing white stockings on his two front legs and a wide white chest. He is sure to grow into quite a looker!
Current Living Situation:
This boy came into our shelter and took it like a champ! First day he was using his kennel dog door to go outside to pee! He has continued to win over the staff with how well behaved he is in shelter life at only 3 months old at the time.
Personality:
Smokey Joe has a gift for swooning! He is a great snuggler once he gets out all his puppy antics with running and playing and of course, training to exercise his brain as well! We think he could grow into quite a wonderful breed ambassador with the right strong leadership and breed savvy home!
Behavior with people:
He does love his people! Of course, Joe is still a baby so good leadership is something he craves to remind him proper behavior, but oh those snuggly moments with soft kisses just melt our hearts!
Behavior with children:
Smokey Joe is just a baby himself so older children who could help redirect him would be best.
Behavior with other dogs:
We think Joe could live with a compatible female.
Behavior with other animals:
We have not seen Joe around any other animals at this time.
Training:
This boy loves to learn! He is food and praise motivated! True to the breed he wants to please his human. He sits and is learning down! Training will be key to raising a well rounded Smokey Joe!
Best Attribute:
It is almost unanimous that his best attribute are those beautiful endearing eyes! He can melt even the coldest of hearts and fix the worst of days with just a head tilt and those gorgeous eyes! Oh, and his sweet lil nose kisses ;)
