Sly Cooper

Sly is a raccoon who is descended from a long line of master thieves and uses his skills, with the help of his long-time friends pull off heists.

Background Info:

Sly's owner surrendered him to the local pound because they did not have time for him and because he was not getting along with the other dog in the home. The dogs did well together initially but eventually developed conflicts that became unmanageable. Upon meeting, the shelter staff immediately pleaded his case to come in our program.

Health Condition:

Sly has mild seasonal allergies that are managed with periodic medication. Otherwise, he is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

Medium size. Gorgeous dark blue coat. Evenly cropped ears.

Living Situation:

A pleasant guest at MPR's shelter. Sly does well in his kennel. Patient and non destructive. He keeps the inside kennel clean and goes to his outdoor run if he needs to do his business but he prefers the yard. While Sly is unpreoccupied by the dogs next to him, he does bark at the fence if something catches his attention (people walking, other dogs, etc.).

Sly's level of energy is medium. He likes to run and play in the yard but he is not hyper. He will be able to keep up if you like long walks. He's very easy-going inside and loves to occupy himself with a toy while laying next to you on the couch.

Sly's disposition is middle-of-road. He is not shy or overly submissive but he is responsive and eager to please.

Sly has a little separation anxiety and needs a few weeks to adjust to a new home. He can be vocal until then so apartment living is not the best option for him. At the shelter, Sly adapted to his life within a few days. He is now quiet in his kennel and no trouble at all.

Behavior with people:

A real sweetheart with his loved-ones but he can be protective. He's very affectionate and loves to cuddle but has a territorial nature when it comes to his environment. He needs responsible ownership but could be a great dog in the right hands.

Behavior with children:

Sly would probably love "his" kids but could become protective of them towards their friends. For this reason, we prefer a home with adults only.

Behavior with other dogs:

Even though Sly was introduced to other dogs during his short stay at the city shelter and did very well (he was even used as a "greeting dog"), we believe he should be an only pet due to the information we obtained from his previous owner.

Behavior with other animals:

No cats please!

Sly appears housebroken and to have great home manners.

Sly is smart and sharp. He was enrolled in an obedience class recently and is acing it.  He is treat motivated and likes to do and learn tricks.

Here's a report from our volunteer about sly's first day in class: "Sly’s first day training was A M A Z I N G! He does so good in the car (minus the few times he tried sneaky upfront). We pulled the armrest up and he didn’t try again. Sly has 3 other puppy friends in class which he was super excited to see. He did not show aggression towards them and was easily redirected when distracted. Let me tell you.....this guy is so smart! How is he not adopted yet? I’m so excited to see how he does the following weeks."
