Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
We have very little info about Shirley's past. We pulled this little beauty from the city pound after a plea came in her favor. She's a sensitive dog and was struggling in such chaotic environment so we immediately transferred her to a quiet foster home.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: American Bully
Sex: Female
Age: 2-4 yrs
Weight: 40-50 lbs
Health Condition:
Little Shirley is healthy and ready for adoption.
Physical Description:
An adorable little low-rider, chubby but almost small enough to be picked up. Her tri-colored coat turns head but it's the sweet expression in her eyes that captures hearts. She looks so much more adorable in person. The camera makes her uncomfortable and eclipsed the silly smile she normally does around her loved-ones.
Current Living Situation:
Shirley is fostered in a home with a single woman and a senior male Chihuahua. There are no children and no other pets in the home. Foster mom is retired and almost always home. She lives in a country-like setting with a medium size fenced yard.
Shirley is crated when foster mom leaves the house but sleeps in bed with her and the companion Chihuahua.
Personality:
Shirley is an adorable little princess with a timid and sensitive personality. Yet, she is super fun-loving and playful once she comes out of her shell. Overall though, she is easy-going and easy to handle. She doesn't require a ton of exercise and is an undemanding little dog other than craving affection. She is indeed, veeeery loving and cant get enough cuddles.
Behavior with people:
While Shirley adores her loved-ones, she is quite timid when meeting new people. She has shown some "stranger-danger" behavior and may need a little time to warm up to certain individuals. As of now, no one has been unsuccessful in winning her heart. She does get over her fear, but people need to understand that she doesn't believe everyone she meets is instantly her best friend.
Once she has established that she can trusts you though, she becomes the silliest, most adorable and loving little princess.
Behavior with children:
We prefer a home without toddlers for this sweetheart due to her sensitivity. She might be ok with older and respectful kids but parents will need to take in consideration that she might be uncomfortable in the presence of a ton of friends coming and going.
Behavior with other dogs:
Shirley is currently fostered with a senior Chihuahua. She does very well with him. The dogs are always supervised and Shirley is kept in a crate when foster mom is not home to keep an eye on the dogs.
Behavior with other animals:
Except for the Chihuahua, there are no other pets in Shirley's foster home. However, she lives right next to several chickens and ducks. She was a little curious about them at first but has learned to just ignore them. She doesn't seem to have a high prey drive but we have not seen her behavior around cats.
Training:
Shirley's training is limited but she knows basic commands. She doesn't have accidents in the house but her foster mom is home all day and lets her outside several times a day.
Best Attribute:
She's too adorable for words! Veeeeeeery affectionate, and the perfect size for a small home or apartment. She's also a fun-loving little clown once she's at ease in her environment, who doesn't miss an occasion to make everyone smile.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
