The name Sammy is a Hebrew baby name. In Hebrew the meaning of the name Sammy is: Sun child; bright sun.
It’s obvious this sweet guy had a hard life but he came to us of hope that things could get better. He has a scar on the neck indicating he might have had an embedded collar at some point. He heartworm positive (yes, another one!), very thin, dirty and malnourished. Something he was not however, is bitter. Indeed, this charming boy has been full of love and cuddles since the day he arrived in our program.

Sammy is being fostered in a home with 3 adults and a cat. He goes for leash walks twice a day. Sammy is doing well on a leash but definitely wants to chase rabbits. He sleeps at night in his kennel no problem. He's also in his kennel anytime no one's home. He doesn't make any messes. He's easy on car rides. He stays in the back and eventually just lays down.
Sammy's eyes say it all. This lover-boy is very eager to please and wants to be by your side or on your lap as much as possible. He is very quiet and foster mom says she has yet to hear him bark. He's a calm, lovable buddy.
Behavior with people:
Sweet and submissive with adults. Very loving, easy to handle, sweet-natured and gentle.
Behavior with children:
Sammy hasn't been around any children yet, but is very sweet and submissive with adults. He might be a little too sensitive for a home with toddlers. We think he'd do well with older and respectful children.
Behavior with other dogs:
Sammy has not been introduced to other dogs. He is unreactive when he sees other dogs during his walks.
Behavior with other animals:
Sammy had a slow introduction with the resident cat and is finally able to share a home with a cat.
Sammy does know how to "sit". Walks well on leash, but will chase small animals. He is well behaved and has great house manners. No trouble at all.
Sammy's desire to be near you and be your best friend are wonderful attributes. He is a real sweetheart, easy to handle, loving and very eager to please. This dog is a real treasure.
