A small cucumber preserved in vinegar, brine, or a similar solution. Pickles represent love triumphing over all evil.
Pickles was adopted from MPR in 2016 to a home with another dog previously adopted from us, Prudy. Through no fault of their own, both of them were returned recently, due to the family developing severe allergies to dogs. The pair is currently at MPR shelter, trying very hard to understand what just happened to them. Needless to say, they are struggling as they were used to being well cared-for and pampered family companions. They are very sad to have lost their home, but at least have each other. We would love to see them adopted together.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull
Weight: 40 to 50 Lbs
No special health needs. Pickles is healthy and ready for adoption.
Cutest little hippo! His ears were cropped super short but it doesn't make him look mean. It's impossibles to miss the sweetness in his eyes. Pickles is a little smaller than average, short legged and stocky. Gorgeous blue coat.
Pickles is currently living at the shelter & sharing a room with his sister Prudy. We are keeping them in our medical room instead of in a kennel to help ease their pain about being abandoned by their family. Pickles is crated at night.
Pickles is easy-going and we have not seen him be reactive to other dogs at fence. At his previous home, he was crated when owners were gone & overnight without issues. However, he has had a few accidents in his crate since being at the shelter, probably due to the stress and change in his routine. His family reported no problem with his housebreaking when he lived with them. Again, losing their home has been very difficult and the pair is stoically going through a period of adjustment. Overall, they are both very well-behaved and have awesome manners.
Previous home did have a fenced yard, but it's not a must-have. Little guy is great on a leash & doesn't need lots of exercise.
ALL TAIL WAGS!!! Pickles' positive attitude is contagious! He is easy-going & loving! Like his big sister Prudy, his favorite thing to do is cuddle with a human! He is a great little brother to her and will move aside so his sister can get the attention. She is a little more reserved than him and he helps build her confidence since he is such an outgoing social butterfly. She follows in his paw steps.
Prudy & Pickles spend most of the day free together in their room. They are usually just cuddled up on her bed. They don't tend to engage in rambunctious play with each other and their level of energy is low. They are both very well-behaved. Our volunteers are actually re-training them that its ok to be on a couch at the shelter. They are very polite and have impeccable house manners. While there are two of them, they are easier to handle as a pair than some dogs alone!
Behavior with people:
Both of them are outgoing & enjoy meeting new people, though Pickles tend to lead the greetings. Prudy is a princess who waits for an invite and then she's all love. While Pickles is very happy to meet everyone, he is not overwhelming with his demonstrations of joy. He easily calms down once his presence is acknowledged. He has a very chill personality.
Behavior with children:
Both of them grew up around their owners' grandkids. Both spent a significant amount of time with infants and young children and are about the same age as the kids now. Growing up with multiple grandchildren, from newborn to school-age kids was a blessing to Pickles as he loves kids. Previous owners report him being gentle with kids of all ages & tolerant to curious toddlers.
Behavior with other dogs:
Pickles was adopted in 2016 to a home where Prudy had been since 2014. They are the perfect pair. She is more serious & needy and he is incredibly go-with-the-flow. He doesn't mind if she pushes him out of the way for attention.
We would LOVE to see these 2 get adopted together, but we think he could do well with the right female as well. We are not ready to separate them yet and will do all we can to find them a home together.
Behavior with other animals:
Like most Pitties and Terriers, no cats or other small animals for Pickles
No official training, but does know basic commands, is easily redirected, eager to please, easy to handle and VERY well-behaved.
Positive energy! Pickles has just lost his loving home, yet he is still wagging his tail, giving kisses, and loving life! His positive nature is contagious & you can't help but smile when you are with him! He is a great cuddle buddy & will be your best friend from the moment you meet him!!! Just an amazing, amazing little dog!
