Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Peso was brought into the city shelter in rough shape. He had old fly strike crusted ears. The city shelter reached out to us and we could not say no to this sweet boy.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 60-70 lbs
Health Condition:
Peso Penguin came to us with crusty fly stricken ears and a red marking on his coat that resembled a harness had been worn possibly too long. He has had a bath and looks much better!
Physical Description:
Peso's adorable face has been the talk of the town at the shelter as our volunteers cannot get enough of this adorable dog. He is almost a low rider who is front heavy as his head is much larger than the rest of his body. Peso has the most beautiful brown eyes that seem to stare into your soul begging for love. He has the cutest black spots on his nose and face and almost resembles a miniature dairy cow with his mixed white and black coat and stocky body.
Current Living Situation:
Peso is currently residing at the shelter where he has use of indoor and outdoor kennels. He has shown to use his doggie door in his kennel to go to the bathroom and has kept a clean room while he snuggles on his bed waiting for our volunteers.
Personality:
Peso is a walking teddy bear/weighted blanket combo This dog loves to relax while snuggled up with our shelter volunteers. Unlike some of our other dogs, Peso has not shown to be the most active dog and prefers the slow moving life while he learns the ins and outs of the shelter. He is however very curious with everyday household activities and keeps our volunteers laughing.
Behavior with people:
While he can initially be timid, once warmed up he is a shadow following you everywhere. We believe a calmer less hectic home without a lot of foot traffic would be best for him. Peso wants to be everyone's friend but prefers to do it in a more relaxed setting. He comically has a "strong paw" where he will hold his paw in the air almost like a wand, demanding attention and love until you come over and give him pets.
Behavior with children:
Peso would do best in a home without children.
Behavior with other dogs:
We believe that with proper, slow introductions, Peso could live with a compatible female.
Behavior with other animals:
We have not seen Peso interact with any other animals but will update as we know more.
Training:
Being new to our program, we are working with Peso on basic, daily commands.
Best Attribute:
Peso is a great example of the resilient dogs that we know the Pit Bull breed to be. Even with a rough start in life Peso has not given up and is ready for a fresh start. When you are around him you can feel the want for love coming out of him and we know there is someone out there ready to give it to him. We have assured Peso that his perfect person is out there and that they will shower him with love every single day for the rest of his life. Give Peso a shot, he is sure to make you glad he did.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
