“The good seaman weathers the storm he cannot avoid, and avoids the storm he cannot weather.” ~Anonymous
Murray reminds us of an old sea captain; He might have gone through a lot of hurricanes but the tribulations of life did not shatter his soul. They made him a wise old man. No one knows why he found himself abandoned at the pound but the staff aged him between 9 to 12 years old. A big boy, whose physical condition reveals a hard life. He took this new trial in stride. He’s been through worse. Murray is a survivor and a real sweetheart. We have fallen in love with the old man, and we know you will too.
Adoption Fee: $135
Breed: Pit Bull
Age: 9-12 Years
Color: Blue with White
Good with dogs: Unknown
Good with cats: Possibly
Health Condition: Murray has a degenerative ligament issue in one leg so he would do best in a home without a lot of stairs. Shorts walks are ok but he might not be the best candidate for mile long walks. Foster mom claims that his leg is not bothering him and that he gets around just fine. He wanders all over the pasture and even runs a bit.
Murray was fostered in a suburban home with 3 human adults and a cat until recently. His foster mom developed health issues and had to give him up. The home where he was didn't have a fenced yard so he was taken out on a leash several times a day.
Note that even though Murray is well behaved and easy to handle, he will require a period of adjustment when he moves into a new home. This is often the case with senior dogs. At an old age, changes are a little harder for dogs but they do adapt. All Murray needs is someone patient and with a big heart. Once he's settles, maybe a week or so, he turns on the charm and will make you glad you gave him a chance.
Good natured and loving, Murray just wants to relax and enjoy his time as an old man dog. Murray does not know a stranger and loves the attention he receives from everyone he meets. His foster mom said he enjoys going on car rides and is always a gentleman when on outings.
Behavior with people:
Murray is gentle and friendly with adults and children. He is eager to make friends with everyone he meets. He wants nothing more than to be right with you at all times. He's very gentle and loving. He is low energy and the perfect companion for anyone looking for a gentle, easy and loving friend.
Behavior with children:
Due to his old age, we prefer a home without toddlers or young, rambunctious kids. We think Murray would enjoy the presence of respectful kids that understand an old dog might not always want to play. He does love to hang out with his loved ones though.
Behavior with other dogs:
Murray has meet two of the dogs in his foster home and was very good. He also met the neighbors dog through the fence. They were barking at him and he was non-reactive. We think he might do well in a home with a compatible female or wouldn't mind being an only pet.
Behavior with other animals:
Murray does well with the family cat. He sniffs him on occasion but isn't highly interested otherwise, though they can occasionally be seen cuddling next to each other. He's also met chickens in his foster home and couldn't care less. No apparent prey-drive.
Murray knows basic commands and loves treats when he's been a good boy. He is leash trained and kennel trained. He doesn't whine, bark or tear up blankets. His foster family thought he was perfect.
We know just from looking at him, Murray has had a hard life but you would never know it from his personality. He may be a little gray around the edges but his heart is pure and full of so much love.
