Muffler

Named after the noises he makes when he's happy.

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Muffler was brought to the local animal shelter with a serious, but treatable medical condition. He was on the list to be euthanized when we thankfully heard his plea - literally! This sweet boy came so close to losing his life and it was all just a misunderstanding! You see, he gets his name from the noises he makes. What was first mistaken for growling is actually the sounds of a very happy dog! Cats purr. Muffler grunts! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 11-18 months
Weight: 60-70 lbs

Health Condition:

Muffler was treated for a prolapsed rectum when initially rescued, but it’s all healed up now. This happy boy is healthy and ready to be adopted!

Physical Description:

This handsome boy looks black in artificial light, but he’s actually a gorgeous dark chocolate color. He has patches of white on his toes, a white stripe down his snoot, and a big splash of white across his chest. He has big brown eyes that are soooo full of love and really pop in the sunshine. He’s got an adorable head tilt and just stares deep into your soul (even if you’re indisposed…bathroom buddy, anyone?!) 😂  Muffler is medium size and very well proportioned.

Current Living Situation:

After a stint at MPR shelter, this sweetheart moved into a foster home with two adults and three other pittie siblings – two males and one female. He is house trained and there’s no trouble at all with kenneling him. Muffler is always crated when foster parents are gone (separated from the other doggos) and he sleeps in his crate at night next to them. Foster mom reports that kennel seems to be a comfortable space for him.

Muff has access to a fenced yard and goes on daily walks around the neighborhood.

Personality:

Muffler has a chill personality, easy-going nature, and puppyish demeanor.

His "voice" can be a little intimidating at first, but once you learn that his grunting is actually his love language, you’ll find it so endearing! He’s a very smart and curious dog. He’s intuitive and knows how to match your vibe.

Muff is very affectionate. As soon as you sit down this boy melts into a puddle of love onto your lap. He’s a snuggler and CANNOT get enough bully rubs! If you really want to get his “muffler” going, that’s the way to do it!

Behavior with people:

Muffler loves his people, no doubt about it. He can be a little timid at first and takes “stranger danger” thoughtfully into consideration. Meeting new people has improved while foster parents continue to socialize him. After the initial greeting with someone new, Muff befriends them and isn’t nervous if he sees them again.

This sweet boy really wants to love everybody but also craves leadership and reassurance. He needs a home that will understand him and can advocate for his unique voice! We don’t want our lover boy to be misunderstood again. He nearly lost his life for expressing his happiness!

Behavior with children:

Unknown. He has not exhibited strong concerning behavior, but he can be a little sensitive. We don’t recommend a home with young kids for this sweetheart.

Behavior with other dogs:

Prior to coming into our program, we were told by the city shelter staff that he did very well during his brief introduction to other dogs in a controlled playgroup that was monitored by experienced dog-trainers.

In his foster home, they are cautiously working on introductions very slowly. All four dogs are always diligently supervised whenever Muffler is in the mix. He has responded well to his foster sibs’ cues, and they’ve taught him how to be the ultimate little brother. On walks, Muffler is curious about other dogs, but he is easily corrected.

We believe Muffler might do well in a home with a compatible female, provided that the owners understand the breed well and know how to manage Pit Bull dogs with other dogs.

Behavior with other animals:

Foster mom reports that Muff has a very low prey drive. He’s a very submissive dude!

Training:

Muffler is eager to please you and catches on quickly. He’s aced all the basic commands and foster parents are currently working on “shake.” Muff is highly foot-motivated, so line your pockets with some training treats and you’ll keep his attention!

Best Attribute:

The thing that nearly killed him is Muffler’s best quality! It’s hard to describe such a unique noise coming from a dog, but you know it’s a good belly rub when it sounds like an old Ford! Whether he’s sleeping or wide awake, this guy is a natural sound machine.

Foster mom loves the way his big buy eyes look deep into your soul, craving love and attention. Muff is the ultimate couch potato and snuggle monster – always keeping you within arms’ reach. 🥰
