Luna

Luna is a feminine name of Latin origin that means "moon". It is also the name of the Roman goddess of the moon. She is often presented as the female complement of the Sun.

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Luna has a rather sad story that we hope will soon be replaced by the happy ending she has been eagerly waiting for. She came to us in spring 2024 after losing her home of 8 years and being dumped in the parking lot of a local pound along with another dog. The other dog was a MPR alumni and we were contacted by his owner's ex to help with the tragic situation. Even though Luna didn't come from MPR, we committed to rescue her as well and take both dogs in our program. Sadly, Luna's long time companion was diagnosed with incurable cancer shortly after his arrival and has since passed away. In just a few months, Luna's entire world has come crashing down on her. She has not only found herself homeless, but has lost her best friend too.

Adoption Fee: Sponsored by Project Happiness LSMO
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Female
Age: Senior
Weight: 55-65

Health Condition:

Luna seems to be in decent health for a golden-age gal! She does have some skin tags here and there but none have shown to be concerning. Otherwise, she shows no signs of physical issues as of now, and still enjoys her walks, play time and of course, cuddle time with her loved-ones.

Note that Luna does suffer from bad weather related anxiety when she is alone during thunderstorms. We give her some anxiety medicine and it helps keep her under control but she does better when someone is with her.

Physical Description:

Luna is the epitome of a Princess faced girlie! Her sweetness shines through her always joyful eyes and precious smile. Luna may be a senior lady but her physique tells a different story ;) This young at heart beauty is in great physical shape and loves her walks on the trails! Luna has a healthy and shiny blue coat! She makes it hard to stop petting her after a good snuggle sesh!

Current Living Situation:

Luna is housed in a tiny home on the MPR property. There she has her own quiet space with a daybed and a dog door to her own deck and private yard! While Luna absolutely loves when the volunteers come to see her, she also does well with her alone time.

Luna has displayed some anxiety during storms to which we have made her a soft fluffy bed in the bathroom to sink into when the thunder and lightning get to be too much.

Luna has proven to be a wonderful house guest in her stay at the MPR shelter. She keeps her area clean, is not destructive, and is overall very well behaved.

Personality:

Luna LOVES her humans!!! This sparkly eyed beauty just exuberates her lust for life each and every day, and she will make you do the same! ;)

Luna was raised with a very active family of kiddos, and we think that's why she is still so active herself.

Luna is so full of life and personality. She is eager to please and very responsive. She has a wonderfully well-balanced personality and equally loves her active and snuggle times. She has shown some signs of anxiety, especially associated with storms, but we believe this is manageable and is only a small quirk of an overall fantastic dog.

While this lovely girl still has good energy for her age, she also clearly enjoys nap time. :)

Behavior with people:

Luna just wants to meet ALL the people! She shows no prejudice... Se is very people-friendly. She just asks for you to be as excited to meet her back!

Behavior with children:

While she has not had any exposure to children during her time at MPR, Luna was raised in a home with children in her previous family and we are told that she loved them dearly!

Behavior with other dogs:

Luna was young when she was adopted in a family with another male dog and she took to her older brother right away. The two of them had a very tight bond that lasted until his recent passing. Since then, Luna seems to have become reluctant to making new doggy friends. In her senior years, she prefers to be an only dog now. Seems like she had only one 4-legged love and we believe she will be happier in a home with no other pets from now on.

We know that trying to place her as an only pet will only make it harder to find her a home but we hope with all our heart the right home will come for her soon. She is too old to be homeless in a shelter and too loving to be without her special people. She deserves better than this.

Behavior with other animals:

We believe Luna should be an only pet.

Training:

Luna girl is so well behaved! She sits and waits while her food is prepared. She loves to listen to your commands, especially if there is a treat to earn ;) This spirited senior can start off a smidge strong on the leash but quickly mellows into a good walking pace for all!

Best Attribute:

Luna's giant smile lights up this world and we are all just lucky enough to be in it with her! Luna could be one of the most deserving gals we have had come through our shelter doors. No such fun loving, cheerful lady should live out her life in a shelter. You deserve a Luna in your life!
