This cutie was named after our Kansas City football star, but did you know that in its ancient Gaelic form, the Irish name Mahome means "bear"?
Mahomes was found as a stray by a good Samaritan in Kansas City and taken to the city pound. To everyone's surprise, he was never claimed. How such a treasure was left behind is beyond us. This dog is amazing inside and out! He has the biggest heart!
Adoption Fee: $200
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier
Age: 3-7 yrs.
Weight: 60-70 lbs.
Healthy and ready for adoption.
Gorgeous copper color coat & very soft! Thick body & beautiful face. He is stunning!
Mahomes was recently transferred to a foster-home with a single adult and a female dog. The dogs are kept separately in two different areas of the house as neither of them is interested in making a doggy-friend.
Keeping them apart is no trouble at all. Mahomes is easy-going and wont go out of his way to start any trouble with the resident female he sees behind baby gates and such.
Mahomes has wonderful house manners & doesn't get into things he shouldn't. He sleeps in a large kennel (5 X 5) and is kept in the kennel on the rare occasions foster mom is not home. He doesn't bark or cry when in kennel. He just snuggles with his blankies & sleeps.
There's a large fenced yard in Mahomes foster home, but we believe he would do well in a home without a yard as well. He has been unreactive to the many barking dogs on the other side of the fence. He's great on a leash also, and loves to go on long, peaceful walks.
Mahomes' heart is as big as his head! He is a very calm dog. His favorite thing to do is cuddle up, watch a movie, and snore away.
This sweetheart needs a calm environment. He is a bit timid & it's clear he has had a human treat him poorly in the past. But once he trusts you, he will give you more love than you ever thought possible!
Mahomes is very low energy. Not a dog who wants to play ball in the yard, but he does enjoy nice, slow walks.
He is a very easy dog, and just wants to be with his human & make you happy!
Behavior with people:
Mahomes will slowly and cautiously greet new people. He is reserved & timid at first, but he warms up quickly. He gets easily attached to anyone who shows him affection.
Behavior with children:
Mahomes recently lost a home due to a toddler's overbearing behavior around him. We will not place him in a home with children. Mahomes does better in a calm and mature environment.
Behavior with other dogs:
We prefer a home as an only pet for Mahomes. We were told introductions to other dogs were attempted when he was at the city pound and Mahomes was uncomfortable and tense. He very much prefers people and we see no reason to forcing him to learn how to live with other dog. He's just not interested.
Behavior with other animals:
No cats please.
Mahomes does know some basic commands. He has wonderful house manners and carry himself like a gentleman around people.
His gigantic heart & love for his humans, as well as his snuggle skills! Whenever you get up on the couch, he is right there with you, curled up with his head next to yours & he falls right asleep. He seems so appreciative of any love and affection he can get. He has so much love to give!!
