Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Perseid and his brother Ceres were found on someone's porch huddled together. They were emaciated and caked in their own excrement and mud. A family member brought them to the city pound where they were sadly never claimed. Ceres has since found his forever home and we know the perfect family is out there for Percy too!

Adoption Fee: $100.00
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 45-55 lbs

Health Condition:

Perseid appeared to have suffered from severe neglect and malnutrition before his rescue. Much to our surprise, it only took a few weeks for Perseid to blossom into a healthy and happy little guy. He's now in tip top shape and ready to be adopted.

Physical Description:

This adorable tri-colored blue boy is on the smaller side, but very well built. He has a compact and stocky body, and a muscular stance. Very good looking little guy. And don't get us started on his adorable face! He has the sweetest underbite that peeks out while he's gazing into your eyes and putting you under a love spell. He's so cute that he is constantly getting "awes" from new people he meets. And that pouty lip is literally to die for!!!

Current Living Situation:

Perseid is fostered in a home with one adult, a teenager, and a three year old female Pitbull mix. The dogs are kept separate. Foster mom 'crate and rotate' to keep Percy happy in foster care until he gets that perfect only pet, forever home. This includes trading off nights to sleep with foster mom. 😊 Other nights he happily snuggles into the guest bed and doesn't make a peep until foster mom wakes him up in the morning.

Percy has learned the ropes of indoor family life. He is mostly housebroken, though holding it in all day can be hard while foster mom works. But she says he is improving! The foster home has a large yard with a 4' picket fence, which he respects. There are neighboring dogs that he typically ignores.

Personality:

Perseid is thriving in his foster home. He loves to play in the backyard, then snuggle-up with his foster family.

Walks and car rides? Yes, please! Percy is always up for any adventure! But he is just as happy to chill at home too, getting as many tummy rubs as he can. If you need a snuggle buddy for movie nights, Percy is your guy!

He can conform to your energy level as long as he gets one really good workout in. He prefers two or three, but understands that sometimes you just can’t walk all day long. 😜

Percy follows his foster mom everywhere she goes in the house, and loves being her little shadow. That said, he understands that sometimes his four-legged foster sister need to have free reign of the house too, and he is quite content just being in his room by himself with his toys.

Overall, Percy is a happy silly goofball! He loves to play fetch and will also throw his toy up in the air himself so he can chase it as fast as his little legs can take him. He loves to bounce around the backyard, checking every cranny for possible rabbit intruders. In fact, we think Percy would do best in a home with a secure fenced yard as his prey drive has developed.

Behavior with people:

Perseid enjoys meeting all people. In fact, he loves to accompany foster mom in the car and go everywhere with her. He’s well known at the bank, coffee shops, and at foster grandparents house, of course! Percy will work the crowd of fans he makes at each stop!

Behavior with children:

Percy gets excited when meeting new kids. Please keep in mind that he is still very much a kid himself and currently entering that somewhat rambunctious teenage stage, so he would probably do best with older kids. He has a thirst for discipline and leadership and will need someone old enough to walk him and play with him, while also keeping him under control.

Behavior with other dogs:

This cutie needs to be the only pet in his furever home. He is just not very fond of other dogs and prefers to get all the lovin' to himself.

Behavior with other animals:

Perseid has developed a prey drive that makes us believe he should be an only pet. Although, he loves to watch his foster fish swim around in the tank - but from a distance, of course 😉

Training:

Foster mom says he is a dream on the leash. He does get overstimulated sometimes and needs to be reminded to take a deep breath and relax or even go take a nap. He LOVES to learn!

Percy does well with leadership and structure, and would do awesome with a family who wants to continue obedience training with him and teach him tricks. He has mastered "sit," "down," and "place." Foster mom says he is learning "wait" and "touch" and says that he is so fun to train.

Best attribute:

Perseid's best attribute would be his ability to capture your heart and his awesome sociability with people. He has adoring eyes, an unmatched devotion to his loved-ones and he enjoys making new human friends - This gorgeous blue hunk is a true testament of the breed. He loves his humans hard!
