Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Before joining the MPR program, Leah was surrendered to the city shelter with another dog when her previous owners ran into financial issues and could no longer afford to properly care for them. He was adopted out from the pound and she came to our program.

Adoption Fee: $175
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Female
Age: 2-4 yrs
Weight: 55-65 lbs

Health Condition:

Leah is healthy and ready for adoption!

Physical Description:

Leah has such a gentle face that would melt anyone's heart. She has a beautiful blue coat with a white chest and feet that have the most adorable spots. Leah is medium size and very well proportioned. A gorgeous girl whose beauty runs deep into her eyes.

Current Living Situation:

Leah lives in a foster home with two adults and no children. She is the only pet in the home. She is taken outside on a leash as the foster home has a partially fenced yard. She is great on the leash when doing her business! Leah can roam free at night and is able to sleep wherever she pleases. She is crated when home alone due to minor separation anxiety when foster parents are away. She might bark but will settle down after a couple of minutes. Leah does great on walks! She has minor stimulation to small animals but is easily redirected when needed.

Personality:

Leah has a very delicate and sensitive personality. She is extremely eager to please and wants nothing more than someone to love on her. Leah enjoys her walks but is a total couch potato. She is extremely gentle with her loved-ones and knows people's boundaries. Leah is submissive to those she trusts and has a very loving nature when she has given you her heart.

Behavior with people:

Leah loves her people to the moon and back. She is very affectionate and docile and would do anything for her family. However, Leah isn't fond of strangers and needs time to bond with people she doesn't know well. She is standoffish and very uncomfortable around new people.

Her owners will need to understand that she will never be a social butterfly. Her behavior is most likely genetic and her social limitation should be understood and respected.  If you have an active life, filled with people coming and going, Leah would not thrive in your environment and may even be a bit of a problem.

However, if live a quiet and reclusive life and are looking for a sweet, loving and gentle companion who only has eyes for you, Leah might just be the one. She may not be greeting your visitors with open paws, but she'll fill your heart will incomparable love and dedicated companionship.  Her discomfort and even potential dislike of strangers need to be taken into consideration tho.

Her behavior and personality will be addressed in more depth with an adoption counselor if you are interested in knowing more about this special girl. This sweet dog is not for everyone but she promises years of pure love and loyalty to the person who will open their home to her and keep her safe and loved.

Behavior with children:

No kids! No grandkids. No visiting children. Leah needs an adult home only.

Behavior with other dogs:

Leah lived in a home with a male dog growing up, so with the right introductions she may possibly be able to share a home with a compatible male, although we believe the best situation for her would be as an only pet. Leah does not seem to mind other dogs on walks but can be timid if other dogs are barking towards her.

Behavior with other animals:

Leah has a medium prey drive towards small animals like squirrels, so a home with small animals is not recommended.

Training:

Leah is quickly learning potty training. She is crate trained. As long as she has a comfy bed and a toy, she is content. Leah does not know basic commands like sit or lay, but her foster parents are teaching her the basic. She is not food-motivated but is "love" motivated. She adored pleasing her loved-ones. She is submissive and very docile.

Best Attribute:

Leah melts into a puddle of love anytime she gets attention from her foster parents. She gets deeply attached to those she trusts. She has an extremely gentle and calm personality. When she gets happy her whole body wiggles with her tail. She is very laid back and is very happy to just sit on the couch and cuddle. Leah will find any spot and make herself comfortable. She is the ultimate cuddler! If you're looking for the most dedicated companionship, Leah is definitely your girl.
