Kala is a fictional ape character in Edgar Rice Burroughs's original Tarzan novel, Tarzan of the Apes. Kala is calm, gentle, kind, and loving. She loves her son Tarzan so unconditionally.
Kala was found as a stray. She was full of milk and had to have been nursing puppies within the last 48 hours. Animal control officers searched the area for her puppies, but with no luck. It's very possible that she was dumped unscrupulous owners after being done nursing.

Kala is spayed, up-to-date on vaccination, microchipped and all around healthy. Her coat is beautiful and shiny. The skin under her belly however, is a little loose most likely due to multiple breedings but will tighten up now that she has been spayed.
This drop-dead gorgeous lady is soaking up love at MPR shelter, grateful and well behaved. She is quiet in her kennel, keeps it clean and doesn't destroy her bedding. While she doesn't seem necessarily eager to make friends with other dogs, she is non-reactive when they walk by her kennel. She also ignores them when its her turn to get out.
Kala is not meek nor is she overly dominant. She is is a loving dog, well behaved, fun-loving and responsive. Her level of energy is medium, but maybe a little more on the low side. She likes the occasional zoomies and she's an enthusiastic greeter to her loved-ones but she also loves to lounge quietly on the couch, chewing on a nylabone. She is affectionate and enjoys a good belly rub but is not obnoxious about it.
Behavior with people:
While very loving and friendly to those she knows well, Kala has proven to have a territorial spirit and can be protective. She is great at recognizing her cues from those she trusts, but will guard the home in your absence. That said, she is a gorgeous dog and could be taken by undesirable individuals so she should never be left outside unattended.
As a companion, she's the type of dog that would put herself between you and anything she perceives as danger. Please keep this in mind when applying for her. Kala is sweet and loving but she doesn't think everyone she meets is a long lost friend. She is a very dedicated companion however, and promises to be loyal to her last day.
Behavior with children:
Kala seems to have a strong materiel instinct. We think she would do well with HER children but she could become protective of them. Something to keep in mind if you have a busy household with lots of friends coming and going. She will need to be well socialized and might not greet strangers with opened-arms.
Behavior with other dogs:
She is not very reactive of other dogs but she seems somewhat dominant. Her past experience as a breeding machine might have not always been very positive and she could be a little annoyed by pushy dogs. We think the best situation for Kala would be an only pet but we wont rule out a compatible male with an experienced owner. Kala is a big girl who doesn't seem to be the kind to back down if challenged. She will not be placed with another female dog.
Behavior with other animals:
Well behaved. Great house manners. Housebroken and non destructive. Kala is responsive and very easy to please.
Kala's beauty is quite striking in person. Those pictures dont do her justice. She has a beautiful head and her gorgeous blue-brindle velvety coat which unfortunately, doesn't show well on picture. She really is stunning in person.
Personalty wise, her best trait is how very dedicated to her loved-ones she is. This dog will give you the moon if you ask her.
