Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus, or just a really cool Opotamus?
We can’t get over how adorable this little guy is. On the small size for a male Pit Bull, Hippo sure is big on charm! It’s a shame someone chopped off his ears like that, but it doesn’t take away any of his cuteness. And talk about sweet!
ID Number: #
Adoption Fee: $135
Breed: Pit Bull
Age: 3 to 5 years
Weight: 40 to 50 lbs.
Good with dogs: Probably
Good with cats: No
Health Condition: Heartworm positive.
As if we didn’t have enough heartworm positive dogs in the program, Hippo also tested positive for this nasty disease. He will receive his treatment while in our care and will need 6 weeks of rest following the injections. He should be back on his feet by the end of October and ready to give his healthy heart to a new family… provided his foster family is able to let him go….
Hippo is fostered in a home with two human adults and an older female Pit Bull. While he is very eager to befriend his 4-legged foster sister, the resident female needs a little more time to accept the little new comer in her home. There’s no fence in Hippo’s foster home so he goes on walks every day. His foster parents have grandchildren who visit on a regular basis.
Yes, he is as sweet as he looks. The pictures don’t lie. In fact, he’s even more adorable in person. Everyone who meets him is instantly smitten, and Hippo has mastered the art of winning people over with his darling personality and irresistible eyes.
Hippo is a big time cuddler and on the calm side. He does have spurt of energy but for the most part, all he was is to cuddle next to you, or o top of you if you let him. His small size works on his favor in that aspect.
Hippo is more on the submissive side and doesn’t have a defiant personality. Sometimes however, he might try to pull the “baby-seal-face” to get away with stuff he doesn’t want to do; go outside in the rain, get off the couch, go in his kennel, etc. He is quiet and well behaved though, and doesn’t resist much. He just tries to see how far he can push the “too adorable-for-his-own-good” side of his personality. He is totally irresistible and he knows it.
Behavior with people:
Very loving; knows no strangers; needy, affectionate, cuddly, you name it. He’s that type of little Pit Bull everyone wants. As cute on the outside as he is adorable on the inside. Hippo is no guard dog at all. In fact, a loving and innocent little guy like him is the one who needs to be guarded. Chances are he’d follow just about anyone, regardless of their intentions towards him.
Behavior with children:
His foster parents will update us soon about his behavior with children. As of now, we don’t anticipate any problems. For his sake though, we prefer a home with gentle and respectful kids. Hippo has a sensitive personality and he gets his feelings hurt easily.
Behavior with other dogs:
Hippo has not been introduced to his big foster sister yet. She’s the one who needs a little more time to accept him. We were told he did well with other dogs while being at the pound. We will update this info as we know more.
Behavior with other animals:
No cats please! Hippo shows too much interest in the kitties and we don’t think he’d do well in a home with cats.
He knows basic commands. Foster parents are working on housebreaking and crate training. More info coming soon.
He’s a ham and he knows it. Words can’t describe how adorable this little guy is. You have to meet him in person. To be honest, if his big doggy sister accepts him, his foster family might have a real hard time letting him go. So as of now, his availability is in her paws.
