Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Gary came to MPR as a puppy — cute as ever — and was quickly adopted into a loving home where he’s been deeply cared for. His mom adores him and has given him a wonderful foundation. But sometimes, even the most devoted love can’t fix an environment that just isn’t working.

In Gary’s case, the challenge is cats. His current neighborhood has an extreme feral cat problem that the community has tried and failed to resolve. They’re everywhere — in the yard, on the porch, at every window. And for a dog with a high prey drive, it’s a constant, exhausting stressor.

Gary’s mom is absolutely heartbroken, but she knows he deserves to live a life where he can fully relax — one where he isn’t in a state of constant overstimulation. She’s made the incredibly selfless decision to let him go so that he can thrive in a home better suited to his needs. Her only wish is to see him happy, stress-free, and deeply loved — just as he’s always been.

Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 2+ yrs
Weight: 65-75 lbs

Health Condition:

Gary is currently healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

Gary is a 70-pound male with a stunning gray coat and light brown and white brindle coloring. His most unique feature? Light brown eyebrows that perfectly frame his soulful green eyes. He’s got a big, expressive head that he loves to rest in your lap — especially if you're offering kisses.

Current Living Situation:

Gary lives in a foster home with one adult and three children (ages 4, 7, and 10). He lives in a home with an 8-foot wooden fence. He sleeps either on the couch, in his bed, or with his foster mom. He has mostly free rein of the house but is sometimes gated downstairs when needed. He gets one walk a day and enjoys hiking, though he’s not a fan of car rides.

Personality:

Gary is a happy, goofy, medium-energy boy who loves being part of the family. He’s eager to please, sweet-natured, and teachable. He thrives on affection and enjoys being close to his people. He can be excitable, especially during greetings, but settles quickly and just wants to be loved.

Behavior with people:

Gary is friendly and outgoing. He’s just a big softie with a gentle heart. He’s a jumper when excited, and his foster is working on polite greetings.

Behavior with children:

Gary has grown up with children and is very comfortable around them. He’s strong but careful, especially with little ones, and has a soft mouth when taking treats or toys. Because of his size, visiting children are usually introduced slowly or given space until they’re comfortable.

Behavior with other dogs:

Gary has demonstrated positive interactions with other dogs in controlled settings,  We think Gary could live with a compatible female dog.

Behavior with other animals:

Gary cannot live in a home with cats or small animals due to a strong prey drive. But let’s be honest — he’s a pit bull, and most pit bulls think squirrels are public enemy #1.

Training:

Gary is house-trained and crate-trained (though no longer crated regularly). He knows basic commands such as "sit," "wait," and "touch," and he’s patient during mealtimes. He’s responsive to training.

Best Attribute:

Gary’s incredibly affectionate, gentle, and loving. He’s the kind of dog who just wants to be near his people. His soulful eyes, tender temperament, and deep desire for connection make him truly irresistible.
