Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Flicka was found as a stray and never claimed. It’s odd she was not picked up, because it appears that she had been loved and that someone had already invested a lot of time and effort with her. We don’t know how this sweet pup ended up in this predicament, but it’s their loss!
Adoption Fee: $100
Breed: Pit Bull/Lab
Age: 5-7 mths
Weight: 35-45 lbs
Flicka is healthy and ready for adoption.
This girl is a black beauty with some white markings on her chest. She is still growing but should be medium size as an adult.
Current Living Situation:
Flicka lives in a foster home with one adult and a 7-year-old child. She also has some 4 legged foster siblings. An 8-year-old female pit mix and a 7-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier. Flicka is crate-trained and gets crated when home alone, although that isn’t very often since foster mom works from home. At night she puts herself to bed by willingly going into her crate around 9:00 p.m. when she gets sleepy. How precious!
Flicka is your typical pup energy-wise – She’s ornery at times, fun-loving and always in a happy spirit. She is wicked smart, very responsive, and eager to please. Beware that she is 100% a Velcro dog! She’s unaware of her size. If you’re on the couch, she’ll sit on your shoulder so she can still see out the window. Flicka has the mentality of, “if I fits, I sits!” Cuddling and staying close to her loved-ones is this dog’s prerogative. Foster mom says she’s been no trouble in the house and she’s an all-around amazing dog.
The best thing about Flicka is her complete adoration of her loved ones. She can never get close enough, cuddle enough, and can hardly stand it if you use the bathroom alone!
Flicka is also a water dog! We think she will love swimming and possibly dock diving in the warmer months.
Foster mom says: "Flicka believes she should get daily baths and tries to slowly sneak into my daughter's baths in the evenings. First she will just have her paws on the side, then she puts one paw in and my daughter will usually call me to get her, because she will slink in and splash like a fish."
Behavior with people:
This young lady has never met a stranger. She’s outgoing and friendly with everyone. Although, she’s a bit leery about the Amazon delivery person because her foster sibs have taught her that they need to protect the house, haha! Nevertheless, people adore her!
Behavior with children:
Flicka has a great relationship with her human foster sister. They work commands constantly and she likes to call her “Licka Flicka” because she gives lots of kisses!
Foster mom says Flicka has good behavior with kids and that she is very willing to help them in whatever new adventure they are going on. 😉
Note: Flicka jumps up occasionally, so a home with older kids is recommended.
Behavior with other dogs:
Flicka is confident and likes to be in charge, but she could possibly live with a compatible male dog. Flicka would also thrive as an only pet.
Behavior with other animals:
Cats and small animals are a no go for this gal!
In addition to being crate-trained, Foster mom says she has not had a single accident in the house. In fact, she’s very vocal about going outside if it’s an emergency. Flicka knows several commands and responds to her name. But she’ll need someone to guide her and keep her entertained so that she doesn’t get into trouble finding her own activities.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
