From The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Esmeralda is a kind, loving selfless soul. She was the first person to ever show kindness towards the deformed and naïve Quasimodo.
Another incredibly sweet dog who was forced to endure the hard life, kept outside on a chain, neglected, unloved and mistreated. Thankfully animal control came to her rescue and she made her way to our program thanks to her incredible disposition, stable and friendly temperament.
Esme was in poor shape when she arrived at the city pound but has since blossomed into a healthy and very pretty lady. We are currently assessing what appears to be a minor eye infection and will treat accordingly.
Turns out Esme's eye issue is a little more serious than we thought. Esme has been diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, also called "Dry Eye" syndrome. She will most likely need eye drops a few times a day for the rest of her life. She has been in foster care for a few months and foster mom claims doing the drops hasn't been an issue at all.
Esmeralda is a great representative of the breed inside and out. She is beautiful and very well proportioned. Average size for a female. Her coat is healthy and a deep dark blue.
Esme currently lives in foster care with her foster mom, four kids ages 4 to 14 and a small Shih Tzu brother. She is a perfectly behaved guest. She is so gentle and loving with the kids and just wants to be in the middle of it all whether it be playing with barbies or race cars. She shows her gratitude by giving lots of wet, pittie kisses.
Esme stays in her kennel during the day while foster mom is a work and keeps it perfectly clean. She doesn't cause any problems whatsoever. She sleeps in bed with the 12 year old foster brother and doesn't move until it's time to get up in the morning for school. She loves her sleep and she snores!
Esme does well on a leash and enjoys going on walks around the neighborhood with her foster mom and Shih Tzu brother. She is great in the car and sits in the seat like the proper princess she is. She will even rest her head on your arm while you're driving.
Esme is a mellow girl that just loves to give and receive love. Her favorite thing to do is cuddle on the couch with her foster family.
Esme loves people of all ages! She is such a loving, friendly and good-natured dog. Esme is responsive, eager to please and soooooo easy to love. Just one look into those sweet, gentle eyes and you're hooked.
This sweet lady loves nothing more than her snuggling time on the couch but she is not pushy about it at all. She's way too polite for that. She will lay at your feet while you work and patiently wait until you have time to cuddle.
Her level of energy is medium to low but she has been known to enjoy a few buttruns in the yard. She's trying to teach her foster dog brother how to do zoomies too. Otherwise, she is laid back, calm and has wonderful manners.
Behavior with people:
Esme loves everyone. She is such a sweet dog that she probably even loved the hands that harmed her before. This dog really is pure sweetness and friendliness. We so want her to find a home that will treat her like she deserves. She has a ton of love to give and all the attributes to make a wonderful family companion.
Behavior with children:
Esme is especially fond of kids and loves to give them a ton of kisses. She has been exposed to children as young as 4 years old and as we expected, she is fantastic with them and very gentle. She is so loving, easy, well behaved and very serene. A home with respectful children who know how to treat a dog gently and with love, would be ideal for her.
Behavior with other dogs:
Esme prefers people to dogs. She is uncomfortable in the presence of rambunctious dogs and/or dogs her size and above. She is dominant towards females and not interested in sharing.
She is fostered with a sweet little male dog however and does well with him. Foster mom did a very slow introduction and the dogs are currently doing well together under supervision. They are never left alone together. They gently play with each other and Esme seems at ease around the little guy..
Foster mom separates if she feels play could get too rough. Esme seems to realize that she is bigger than her Shih Tzu brother and that he is no threat or challenge to her. She plays down to his level.
Behavior with other animals:
No cats please!
Very eager to please and naturally well behaved. She keeps her kennel clean and doesn't tear anything up or make messes in her foster home.
Esme has become a volunteer favorite and her foster family is just as smitten. This sweet lady has too many great qualities to list. She's about as perfect as they come. You need to meet her in person. Don't let those cropped ears fool you, Esme is an angel of love and will make some family very lucky.
