Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Dragonfruit joined the MPR program from the city shelter. She arrived as a stray so we don't have any information regarding her past and upbringing. We do know that she is a real sweetie who wins everyone's heart as soon as they lay eyes on her. She is as lovely on the inside as she is cute on the outside.

Adoption Fee: $175
Breed: American Bully
Sex: Female
Age: 3-5 yrs
Weight: 40-50 lbs

Health Condition:

Dragonfruit recently underwent corrective eye surgery for an ulcer on her cornea. She quickly healed and is back to her normal self now! She is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

This speckle faced sweetie has the kindest eyes, even after all she’s been through! She has cropped ears and wrinkled forehead. Her little crooked tail wiggles when she’s ready to follow you wherever you’re going! What is most endearing about Dragonfruit's appearance are her short little legs and stocky body.  This little low-rider looks like a rolly polly and her amusing gate will always bring a smile to your face.

Current Living Situation:

Dragonfruit is currently fostered in a home with a single adult and two cats. She has access to a fenced backyard and loves to go on walks around the neighborhood! Dragonfruit walks well on a leash without pulling and sits still when leash is out, with the exception of a few excited hops before final plop!

She is crate trained and has no issues spending time in her crate at night and when left home alone.

Dragon is mostly kept separate from the cats in the home. She has seen the cats and thinks they are friends even if they don’t agree. If it was up to her, she'd be more than happy to hang out with them but the cats dont approve of this canine visitor and have made that clear.

DF needs some extra help getting on the couch, but once she’s up there, prepare to put your focus on her! She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle.

There are neighboring dogs that she pays no mind to! She is unbothered by dogs barking or squirrels she encounters while on walks, but loves to see people! She enjoys snoozing while foster mom works during the day, with the occasional outside break. She loves to have your attention, but is also respectful of your space!

Personality:

Dragonfruit has a very well balanced personality! She has a medium/low energy level and is a total goofball yet still easy going. She's a smart cookie with a bit of the bulldog stubbornness but she knows how to use her charm to be forgiven. Overall. she is eager to please her humans and ALWAYS happy to be with you!

Behavior with people:

Dragonfruit loves people! She's friendly, outgoing, and well-mannered with everyone she meets. Her foster mom often takes her to public places such as hardware stores and she is a hit everywhere she goes, which totally pleases her.  She is quite the social butterfly.

Behavior with children:

There are no kids in her foster home but DF has met several kids during her outings and is as thrilled to greet them as she is with adults. We are not ruling out a home with children for this docile and tolerant goofball, provided the kids are respectful and old enough to understand how to treat a dog. Please keep in mind that since she is not fostered with children, we dont know how she would react if little ones would approach her while she is eating or chewing on toys. Foster mom has not reported any issues with resource guarding but this behavior has not been observed in the presence of children.

Behavior with other dogs:

Dragonfruit seems to get along with other dogs, at least those she has met so far. This is not a behavior we can guarantee in the future but as of now, she has not given us any indication that she must be an only pet.  With proper introductions, we believe she could possibly live with a compatible male, provided the owners understand bully breeds well and know how to assure good leadership and provide thorough supervision. She would also enjoy being the only 4-legged princess in the home 😊

Behavior with other animals:

Dragonfruit has not shown signs of prey drive. She is interested in and happy to see other animals but in a controlled manner! Foster mom has been working on slow introductions with the cats in the home. So far we believe that she might be a possible candidate for a home with kitties, but again, we cannot guarantee future behavior and interaction with other pets.

Training:

Dragonfruit has mastered basic commands like sit and lay down. Foster mom has also been working on teaching her place, as well as waiting when in doorways and at feeding times. She sometimes needs to be reminded to keep all four paws on the ground. She is very smart and food motivated! She is incredibly responsive and eager to please so we think she'll excel with continued training.

Best Attribute:

Dragonfruit's best attribute is her happy-go-lucky nature, and her eagerness to be your best friend and how much she loves people! All she wants is love and fun times! As if this was not enough, she is as cute as a button!
