"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind."
- Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream
We were told this heartbreaker was a victim of Craigslist. We don’t know what happened to him exactly, but he came into the city pound already neutered, in good shape, and microchipped. The chip led to the Craigslist ordeal. Now, lucky Cupid is living it up in a foster home while he waits for his forever home!

This pretty boy with the softest eyes, has been transferred to a caring foster home and is already showering his foster mom with love to show how grateful he is. He is fostered with two resident dogs & currently on a crate & rotate process to be introduced to the resident female.
Cupid is a big, gentle and sensitive dog. As long as he is near you or has you in his sight, he is content. He does have separation anxiety, but foster mom is working on it. We are slowly piecing his story together and it appears that poor Cupid has been shipped from home to home before finally landing at the city pound, devastated and traumatized. Indeed, it doesn’t take much to break this sweet dog’s heart so you can only imagine how distressed he was at that point. We believe that love and stability will heal his broken heart, slowly but surely. This dog is very eager to please and all he wants is to be reassured that someone is always going to love him.
Behavior with people:
Cupid absolutely adores women but is fearful of men. We are currently working on this issue with patient and experienced male volunteers. We can tell that Cupid really wants to believe no one is out to hurt him or his lady friends, but he’s not there yet. With women, he is just about the most loving, needy, cuddly baby in the world. With men, he is reserved and a little standoffish. No aggression, but an obvious lack of trust.
We are not overly worried about this behavior at this point, since he is already showing improvements. We’re hopeful that Cupid was born a good and stable dog, but possible unpleasant events in his life have thought him to be cautious around men. He is getting a lot of socialization sessions with male visitors while in foster care, so he can learn to relax and enjoy everyone’s company. We will update his bio as he gets better.
Behavior with children:
Cupid hasn't been around children since being with Missouri Pit Bull Rescue. We believe he is too sensitive for a home with young children.
Behavior with other dogs:
Cupid hasn't been introduced to the resident dogs but has interacted with the female through his kennel. There haven't been any negative reactions.
Note that we learned Cupid had at least one bad experience with another large male dog in a previous home. He will not be placed with another male. He would thrive as an only pet, but may possibly enjoy the presence of a female companion. His bio will be updated once we know more about him.
Behavior with other animals:
Loverboy has been introduced to cats and did ok. He seemed very curious about the cat, but didn't actively show a prey drive. A home with a dog-savvy cat could be a possibility for him.
It’s obvious that Cupid was a well-cared for pet at some point. He is housebroken, knows basic commands, does well in a car, and is very well behaved. Then things must have turned sour for him but he didn’t lose his good house manners. That said, he does better in a crate when home alone due to his separation anxiety. A large wire crate is a safety den for him.
With those he trusts, Cupid is full of love! He just wants to be cuddled up next to you & be around you. Heck, he'd get inside your shirt if he could... He is very affectionate and we stress it. If you are looking for an independent dog that does his own thing and leaves you alone, Cupid is not the dog for you. This big baby has a ton of love to give and is craving your love in return. If you are looking for a dedicate cuddler, look no further. Cupid will melt your heart the minute you meet him.
