Bonzo the Dog starred in one of the world’s first cartoons. He had a lovable vibe and look. The creation of Bonzo had a massive impact on the world of popular culture and his little dog was loved by both children and adults alike.
Found as a stray and unbelievably never claimed. This blows our mind because this dog is a real gem! Why would anyone not want him anymore is completely beyond belief. Well, their loss, his next owner's gain. This dog is going to be an amazing breed ambassador.

Medium size, mostly white with a few large black patches. This dog has THE softest eyes that perfectly reflect his tenderhearted personality.
Bonzo currently lives at MPR shelter where he's just about the best guest ever! He's made himself a volunteers' favorite at first meeting. He's no trouble at all in his kennel, keeps it clean and acts like a perfect gentleman. None reactive to the other dogs, patient, quiet and very content. We absolutely love this guy!
Bonzo is a softhearted teddy bear. Very gentle, laid back and tolerant. The dog is full of love and very responsive. Borderline submissive but not shy. He just seems to have a strong natural desire to please people. To see us smile makes him real happy and brings a gentle smile in his own eyes. He's very easy to read and communicates his feeling real well.
Though close to being perfect in every ways, Bonzo does tend to chew stuff when left alone in a room. That said, its just a matter of learning to differentiate between dog toys and what's not appropriate to chew. Obviously no one took the time to train him before and its possible he was never allowed in a house. The sweet mellow boy is very receptive and so eager to please that learning to become a perfectly behaved companion should be a piece of cake. Until then, supervision and crate when home alone is recommended.
Behavior with people:
He's a total love! We can guaranty that anyone will fall in love with this charming Casanova the minute they meet him. He will not be in our program very long.
Behavior with children:
Unknown but we are going to be diligent if we place him with kids. Not because we are worried he could hurt a child but because he's a sensitive sweetheart. Bonzo is very good-natured and placid and we dont want children that are not familiar with dogs taking advantage of his tender personalty.
Behavior with other dogs:
We were told he did ok with female dogs when introduced at the pound but didn't like male dogs. While he is not reactive to dogs that walk by his kennel at the shelter, we can tell that Bonzo is not fond of other dogs. They seem to make him uncomfortable. We believe he'd be much happier as an only pet and we would prefer that situation for him.
Behavior with other animals:
Bonzo doesn't have a lot of training but he knows sit, comes when called and appears housebroken. As explained above, he should be crated when home alone as he's been known to chew a thing or two he was not supposed to when left in a room by himself. He is very apologetic when he realizes he was not supposed to though.
In our top-10 sweetest dogs of all time to have come in our program. That says a lot about this amazing dog as we'be had thousands of sweet pitties throughout the years. You better hurry to apply for this one or you will miss your chance!!!
