Billy Bee

A popular brand of honey. Honey is the symbol of sweetness and prosperity. It also means immortality and rebirth.

Background Info:

Billy Bee was found as a stray & taken to the local pound. MPR was contacted and Billy was moved to foster care. He was adopted to a family with kids shortly after. Sadly, BB came back to our program recently because his new family is having another baby and doesn't feel they can manage 3 very young kids and a dog without a fenced yard.

Health Condition:

Billy is a healthy young male, neutered and up-to-date on vaccination.

Physical Description:

Billy is medium size but and very well proportioned. He's a great looking brindle boy with an athletic and muscular stance.

Living Situation:

Billy is fostered in a home with two adults, no children but one female Pit Bull mix. He is kept in a crate when no one is home and is no trouble at all. There's a large yard with privacy fence, which he loves.

Billy Bee is a sweet boy who's very responsive and eager to please. He doesn’t seem to have known how exactly to be a dog before coming to our program but has quickly learned what the good life is all about thanks to the great care of his foster parents. Billy has come out out of his shell and learned to enjoy people's company. His foster mom describes him as a "stage 5 clinger". He loves being cuddled and will follow you everywhere you go in the house. No more lonely trips to the bathroom...

His attached behavior was a bit of an issue with his adoptive home as he was glued to the mother and not always understanding of his boundaries when it came to the baby. He did love the 8 yo boy though, and did excellent with him.

In his foster home, BB sleeps in his crate during the night. At first he had some separation anxiety but he now does very well in his crate. He's also crated while foster family is at work.

Billy Bee would thrive in a home where people have plenty of time to show him the attention and love he so desperately wants. He would also benefit from a large yard with a secured fence. He loves doing zoomies! He also enjoys playing in a doggy-pool.

Billy has a medium to high energy level. He has a quirky little personality and loves to cuddle. He enjoys chewing on antlers and playing alone with toys or with his foster friend Lola. He had anxiety for the first few days in foster care, but has shown tremendous improvement since.

Behavior with people:

Slightly reserved when first meeting people but warms up quickly. He yearns for love and attention. His confidence has improved since we first met him. Living with an outgoing and sociable dog helps him. Overall, he loves people and is glad to be able to make friends.

Behavior with children:

Billy lived with an 8 yo boy and an 8 months old baby for several months this summer. He was very fond of the older boy and they spent a lot of time together. Billy wasn't as comfortable with the baby. He would sometimes jump on the mother's lap while she was nursing the baby and that is the reason the parents decided to return him, especially considering that mom was pregnant again.

For his sake, Billy will not be placed in a home with toddlers or babies again. Older, respectful kids would be fine. He did love his 8 year old human brother.

Behavior with other dogs:

Billy has been nothing but great with his foster doggy sister. She is unsure of other dogs due to having a bad experience before but welcomed Billy with opened paws. We are hopeful that he would do well in a home with a female companion.

Behavior with other animals:

Billy Bee loves bird watching and likes to chase after squirrels. He seems to have some prey-drive. A home with cats might not be the best fit for him. He also needs a secured fenced yard and to be supervised when outside.

BB is house-trained and crate-trained. He currently knows how to sit, lay down , come and shake. He's very treat-motivated and is learning other tricks. He does have the attention span of a young dog, which is normal for his age, but is getting better. He has a lot of potential for training.

To help with his confidence, Billy Bee was enrolled in an obedience class with his foster parents last spring. He did awesome. He is super smart and loves to show his tricks.

Best Attribute:

Billy is quirky and sweet. Loving and eager to please. Has a fun-loving personality and is impossible to not fall in love with.
