Basil

A tender plant used in cuisines all over the world. Basil is embraced as a symbol of love. During the Victorian era Sweet Basil conveyed “good wishes” to the receiver. In Italy, a man who accepted basil from a woman was destined to marry her.

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

This adorable boy was found as a stray, running at large with his momma and two sisters (Aster & Laurel - also in our program). His momma was adopted directly from the local animal shelter, while Basil and his siblings came into our program.

Adoption Fee: $250
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 6-10 months
Weight: Growing

Health Condition:

Healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

Basil has the most gorgeous eyes that juxtapose beautifully with his fawn and white coat. He came in weighing about 45 lbs, but he’s a growing boy who still has some filling out to do. Be sure to check out his album on Facebook (linked above - click "See More Photos on Facebook") so you can admire the wide variety of Basil’s facial expressions! 😂

Current Living Situation:

Fostered in a home with all of stimuli you can imagine to help socialize a young dog! Basil lives in a home with five adults, and several other animals, including: a Chihuahua, three Pitties, two cats, and foster kittens. He gets to travel to the lake every weekend! What a ruff life! 😄

Basil is housebroken with access to a fenced yard. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed or sometimes in his crate. Basil is crate trained, but he is trusted to be left loose in the house when he’s home alone and there haven’t been any issues reported!

Personality:

Such a happy and sweet guy! Basil is an outgoing goofball – again, check out his photo album! He has a medium level of energy, so not super hyper like a lot of pups his age. 👍 Basil is a solar-charged pup, who LOVES sunbathing. He's very easy going and eager to please.

Behavior with people:

Basil adores living in a home with lots of people in and out, of all ages. He is friendly with everyone and so well behaved. Foster mom says he’s a wiggle butt, but he does not jump on people!

Behavior with children:

Same behavior with children – he’s friendly and outgoing, well-behaved, and very patient. Since Basil doesn't have the urge to jump up on people, he could probably live in a home with smaller children since he likely would not accidentally knock them down. He loves people of all ages though - the more, the merrier!

Behavior with other dogs:

Basil did great in playgroups while he was at the local animal shelter and his foster mom says he gets along with his foster siblings. We think Basil would enjoy a furever home that came with some playmates!

Behavior with other animals:

He has not exhibited any concerning behavior. Foster mom says after he initially checks out the cats and kittens, he totally ignores them. We can’t guarantee that he could live with other small animals, but we know that there haven’t been any problems with them at his foster home.

Training:

Basil has mastered “sit” and goes into this kennel when told. Foster mom says he is super sweet and listens well – always comes when he is called even! Better yet, Basil doesn’t chew things up when he’s on his own. It's also wonderful that he doesn't jump on people. Such a good boy!

Best Attribute:

Basil is a gem. He’s gorgeous, sweet, and well-behaved. Foster mom says you couldn’t ask for an easier dog!
