Aladar is a compassionate and merciful Iguanodon and the protagonist of Disney's movie Dinosaurs. Aladar is a natural leader and protector.
Aladar and his girlfriend Neera were found as strays and surprisingly, never claimed from the local city pound. A plea for their rescue immediately came to us as Neera was very pregnant at the time. We believe Aladar is the proud father of her litter of puppies. Neera and her puppies have all been adopted since. Aladar is still waiting for his turn.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Mastiff/Pit Bull Mix
Age: 10 to 24 Mts
Weight: 80+ lbs
Healthy and ready for adoption
Absolutely striking looking and BIG! Over 80 Lbs already, and we suspect he's still growing. The big goof probably has more Mastiff type dog in him than anything else. Aladar might be approved in municipalities that dont accept Pit Bulls.
Aladar is currently living at MPR where he's been entertaining the volunteers with his "Joie De Vivre" and BIG personality. Talk about a goofball!
Everything his big with this one! His size, his heart, his personality and his happiness. The dog is a juvenal buffon in dire need of training and structure. We're working on it.
The worst part is to try to keep a straight face when he's around. This fun-loving dinosaur is a natural born entertainer and he knows it. Everyone is cracking up when Aladar is in the room, even when he gets into stuff he should not. He is learning but is definitely a work in progress. We want to make sure that anyone who applies for him understands that he is a huge overgrown puppy and not the best candidate for an inexperienced home. Kind of a Bull in a china shop... In the right hands however, the dog is a gold mine.
Note that Aladar is not defiant or overley stubborn. He's just naive and curious and most likely never had much attention before. He's a smart dog who needs to learn how to learn. He is scheduled to begin a training class with MPR if he's not adopted before that. We think the lovable goof is full of potential.
Behavior with people:
Very friendly, but for a dog his size, he sometime lacks confidence. He's not weird or shy but he gets a little intimidated when first introduced to a group of people or in a new situation. He gets over it very quickly though. He actually loves people and enjoys making friends. We do believe that as a Mastiff, he will become a faithfull protector. His family will need to continue socialisation with him and he will learn to get his cues from them.
Behavior with children:
He should be great in a home with older, bigger children. He's a little rambunctious at time and doesn't always understand his size. He has no malice however and is very much a kid himself. We think he would love a home with a big family.
Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown for sure but he did well with Neera. He's a big guy though, very strong and his "in-your-face" demeanor could easily overwhelm other dogs. We think that with the right companion he could share a home with another dog but he would do well as an only pet as well.
Behavior with other animals:
We're working on it! He has quickly learned to use the doggy door at the shelter and keeps his inside kennel clean. Volunteers are teaching him basic commands.
His beauty and his huge happy personality. His enthusiasm for life is contagious.
